Sleepy Company began in Philadelphia in 2000 as a (mostly) acoustic trio featuring Barry Bush and Dan Baker (aka Redbeard) on guitar and Robby Barringer on vocals. During the acoustic trio period, the group busked, played open mics, and recorded "bedroom country psychedelia" often with contributions from producer/5th-Beatle Matt Stevenson. In the fall of 2001, bassist Joe Coulombe and drummer Sherri Hamilton joined the band as Sleepy Company became a fully electric rock band.
