In the summer of 2005, Jason Ray, J.R. Bellizzi and Andres Caputo formed the as-yet-unnamed Star's End. Based in Portland, Star's End worked on the handful of songs that would eventually become "The Escape" in Caputo's basement studio. The band began playing club shows in Portland and Eugene in 2006 and worked to perfect their material before beginning recording in December of 2008.
