Tararua is an ensemble combining taonga pūoro, waiata, karakia and pūrākau with the western instrumental elements of the cello and double bass. Comprised of four established Aotearoa artists: Al Fraser, Ariana Tikao, Ruby Solly and Phil Boniface, the ‘two peaks’ of the Tararua name connect whakapapa, from mountains in both North and South Islands, weaving the voices of Aoraki, the tūrakawaewae of Solly and Tikao, winding through Te Waipounamu-raised and Wellington based artist Fraser, and merging into Boniface’s birthplace and connection with the Tararua ranges.
