The Gaulway Ramblers formed when members of an Irish traditional session in east Alabama were joined by a French hurdy-gurdy player. Playing entirely on acoustic instruments, their sound can be described as high-energy, gritty and adventurous, often featuring drones from the hurdy-gurdy and uilleann pipes. Another unusual choice is their use of the viola rather than a violin as the "fiddle" instrument, which gives the music an overall darker, harmony-thickened tone. The Gaulway Ramblers' released their eponymous debut album in August of 2022.
