Mild Peril is the debut full-length album by The Spend, and The Spend is Matt Shaw, a Bloomington, IL native who has lived in Chicago since college. Mild Peril was recorded at Semaphore Recording in Chicago with engineer Jeremy Lemos (Bill Callahan, Jack Rose). Shaw arranged and performed every track on the album, created its cover art, and made a record label, Basic Satan, to release it. On Mild Peril, The Spend’s songs can alternate between quiet and loud, acoustic and electric; but they are always haunting, full of rich imagery and emotion.
