Released in July of 1991, Into the Great Wide Open is the eighth studio album by American rock band Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. The album reached #13 on the U.S. Billboard 200 and #3 on the UK Albums Chart. It was certified double platinum for sales in excess of two million units in the United States. Five singles were released from the album. "Learning to Fly" and "Out in the Cold" reached #1 on the U.S. Billboard Album Rock Tracks. "Into the Great Wide Open" reached #4 on the same chart and was a minor hit on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100.

Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers was a rock band formed in 1976 from Gainesville, Florida, USA and led by Tom Petty. Petty was supported by his band, The Heartbreakers, for the majority of his career.
