Unión Gris got together during the summer of 1990 in Miami, FL when Manuel and Armando got together as a hobby to play covers of other groups such as AC/DC and The Rolling Stones. It is not until 1992 when they decided to form a group and added David and Alex Bolaños as guitarists. In 1997, the band changed its name from Separate Union to Materia Gris.
