Moscow-born Zarifa (1983) has been immersed in music since her earliest childhood. At the age of three she was already singing in a gypsy theatrical troupe. At thirteen, she entered the prestigious Moscow Music School, amongst the élite of arts centres there, to study piano and singing. At the age of fifteen she came to live in France. It was here she got to know Florin Niculescu, one of the greatest violinists on taoday’s jazz scene. He was so impressed by her talent that he gradually introduced her to jazz.
