Carrie Van Allen was born in Boston in 1990. She began to pursue music on her own in 2000 by enrolling in piano lessons. After a few years, she found the routine tiresome and quit: she despised being told what to play. In 2005, she was inspired by Alicia Keys to resume her piano "lessons" and wound up learning more in those few years as a pre-teen than she learned on her own, at an alarming rate.
