Zahava Seewald singer and leader of zohara Zahava was born in Antwerp in a milieu in which Yiddish was a vector of communication and Ashkenaz religious songs in Hebrew were omnipresent. After studying art history at Brussels Free University she went on to study classical singing with first Marianne Pousseur and then Kathelijne Van Laethem. At the same time, she began investigating traditional Yiddish and Judeo-Spanish song.
