The Mercury Prize is an annual award given to the best album from the United Kingdom and Ireland. Primal Scream were the first to win the prize in 1992 for Screamadelica. Other winners have included Pulp, Arctic Monkeys and Dizzee Rascal. To date, PJ Harvey is the only act to have won the award more than once, in 2001 for Stories from the City, Stories from the Sea and in 2011 for Let England Shake. She was also the first female solo artist to win the award. The most recent winner, as of the 2012 award are Alt-J for An Awesome Wave. View wiki
