Straightforward nostalgic fun. This is more evidence that the Adverts' take on post-punk was effectively proto-punk: the playful singing (requisite backing vocals included); the fuzzy, wild Johnny Thunders guitar licks; the sprightly piano lines underneath it all--this is a timewarp back to '73 or '74. It sounds like a New York Dolls B-side (or a Heartbreaker's A-side). Hey, somebody needed to carry the torch of scuzzy working-class yobs who just wanna be loved, and the Adverts were willing to do it--though I take it that the transvestitism was a bridge too far. Which is a shame: you get more cred if you can pull this off in a blouse as opposed to a leather jacket.
