how much do you have to hate life so you are able to make something like teethed glory?

I'd been meaning to come back to this for a while when someone I know brought up "Burnt Year" recently. I remember having heard TGaI back in the day, didn't hate it, but other than that, I remember nothing, no songs except "God Alone". So I heard "Burnt Year" again and it is fucking lethal. Desperate and tragic. Like watching people you love die before you can save them. Dangerous stuff.

tfw you'll never make an album that means as much to people as the albums you love mean to you

AApart from playing in several bands like Conan, Malthusian and Dread Sovereign, their drummer has also a project with a fomer AoP member called Krawwl, probably the closest one to what Alt of Plagues was doing.

Last night I listened to TG&I while drifting off to sleep. Strongly recommended; it's one of the most surreal musical experiences I've had in a while. The album is already kind of dreamlike in its second half, and I wasn't entirely sure what experiences were part of the album and what experiences were cases of me losing consciousness or dreaming. It remains one of the best albums of the decade. I'm honestly still trying to decide if it's the absolute best; it may well be.

as someone that's suffered from insomnia for most of my life, the idea that you can even fall asleep to something like that seems absolutely insane to me.

I can't help but laugh, as I once (accidentally) fall asleep while listening to White Tomb. I might gonna try it with TG&I.

Burnt Year is still one of the most terrifying black metal influenced songs I've ever heard. The explosive drums, the visceral vocals, the riffs, the very unique production and the song structure and progression just works amazingly well. It has black metal's essence but it goes beyond that when it comes to create a powerful dark atmosphere

Everything both of you said, but also, the lyrics. In many cases, if you can’t make out the lyrics to a metal song, looking them up gives you a bit of extra insight, but it doesn’t change your perception of the song all that much. That is absolutely not the case with Burnt Year. Knowing the lyrics makes an already terrifying and devastating song even more terrifying and devastating. Honestly, the first three and a half minutes or so may be the heaviest metal I’ve ever heard. And I just have to reiterate the mention of the vocals. Dave Condon’s (I think?) vocal performance on that is one of the most tortured vocal performances I’ve ever heard. He sounds like he’s about to die of grief. Which, of course, fits the lyrics perfectly. A masterpiece.

Teethed glory is better than any Deafheaven album and it comes from a die hard Deafheaven homosexual nerd. No offence to homosexuals, shout out to them.

It seems that I should give Teethed Glory and Injury another chance, since I was quite disappointed when it came out, but apparently almost everyone regards it as their best record

"Teethed Glory and Injury" is still some of the best music I've heard in my life.

Yeah, it is. A lot of people seem to skip EPs for some reason. Some EPs are actually my favourite releases by their respective bands (Vattnet Viskar's s/t, for example, or Petrychor's Apocalyptic Witchcraft), though in AoP's case TG&I is my favourite release of theirs. But Tides might be #2.

Its become my favorite, at least. Taste is subjective, but there's no denying this is a fantastic album

I don't know if it's *the* best, but it's certainly a highlight of the decade so far, and it's certainly their best album. I still haven't heard anything else that sounds like it.

They did reunite in 2015 for a series of shows. A recording of one is available on their Bandcamp.
