Basement 5 was a band from London, UK founded in 1978 as "The Basements". The band's vocalist was Winston Fergus, then Don Letts and in 1979 photographer Dennis Morris. The drums were finally played by Richard Dudanski who had formerly played in The 101'ers and Public Image Ltd. The songs reflected the situation of young people in Great Britain in the era of Maggie Thatcher: youth unemployment, strikes, racism, poverty of the working class. The band broke up in 1981 after releasing one album and a mini album with dub versions produced by Martin Hannett.
