while i agree that post rock is quite the deep genre, i've been going to post-rock concerts for almost ten years now (not so much since covid, obviously) and listening to post-rock records for a bit longer and to this day i still have to find bands that impressed me more than caspian, both with their live performance as well as their consistency in the studio material.

I totally agree with you concerning caspian being one of the very best, live and on record. however, apart from our "usual subjects", there are so many more bands to be discovered (not from the darkest underground) whose music will have a similar effect on every post-rock-lover.

I adore this band. so. much. I had my problems with "on circles", considering their untouchable masterpiece "dust and disquiet". but it grew and grew and grew...on me. currently, its underlying hope without denying the melancholic state of things hits me hard, especially at these times of my personal crisis and the worldwide corona fears. We stand together (without touching) for a better future!

You know you've done something really well when the re-listens are more enjoyable than the previous listen. On my first listen to On Circles, I was like... this is cool. Wasn't planning on listening to it again for a few weeks though. Had some time, wasn't feeling the usual go-tos, so I popped on On Circles again. And boy, am i glad I did. Wildblood, Nostalgist and Collapser are the standouts for me, but it flows really well and is a really good record front-to-back.

For a genre and sound that's been done to death, Caspian can still somehow write a soaring tune without the expected cheese or tropes of current-day post-rock. Dunno how they do it, but Flowers of Light is something else.

I'm with you. I'm mostly delighted when I recognize these tropes being used properly - to create an atmosphere and match a certain emotional weight that fits the depth of the song concerned, no matter which genre makes use of it. I hate it when these post-rock tropes are used as a gimmick without acknowledging their original effect and meaning.

Saw them live years ago with Jardin and some guy who made post-rockish stuff. Tbh I didn't like them too much before that, but geez that was an awesome performance. Same for Jardin. Amazing bands.

caspian are more than jardin le la croix tbh ;) caspian’s music delivers rousing dynamics within each song, most of which include post-rock tropes as expected, but done extraordinarily well. While each songs stands on its own, every album of caspian manages to create an overall picture and atmosphere caused by the interplay of its songs that leads you through emotional highs and depths in a way no other post-rock band can compete with on this level, imo.

I think it's really cool that these guys and Katatonia decided to tour together. It seems to have introduced a lot of Katatonia fans to Caspian and a lot of Caspian fans to Katatonia.

Pretty epic set at Arctangent festival this year, with the exception of the power glitch at the start of their set, it was still a banger!
