Biography
Investigations in the tricky art of writing music
Copenhagen / Chicago (2009 – present)
CLEEMANN is a Danish indie one-man-project centered around singer, multi-instrumentalist and musical director Gunnar Cleemann (born 1971). With a forward yet slower motion, a distinguished aspect of his music is the vocal being a primary instrument. Also proficient with guitar, keys, piano and bass, his unique sound-scape – subtle acoustic textures and analogue beats and loops – is born out of a passion for vintage instruments and studio equipment.
His 10-song-cycle "45 Minutes Mostly About Caring", officially released September 2009 in Denmark and the US, is a series of investigations and questions into the tricky art of writing music as well as into his own self.
2nd solo-album "Different" is recorded and produced as a cross-atlantic project in Copenhagen and Chicago – digitally available September 2013 with ltd. ed. vinyl released spring 2014 in Chicago.
Each song displays human emotions we inevitably know, accept, or conquer throughout our lifetime, representing personality-aspects in a manner of deep humanity. Cleemann’s theory that these songs are mostly about caring is not too far fetched – it is clear this is about personal realizations.
