I was turned onto space rock because I started dwelling on Manilla Road’s peculiar albums before they found their heavy metal sound. Now I find myself listening to Hawkwind, a band I had heard of years past and knew Lemmy was in but never cared to listen to. Now I’m here fried listening space ritual having some of the best listening experiences ever.

RIP Nik Turner (sax, flute, vocals , effects, songwriter and co-founder). He really helped to shape the sound on the early albums. He wrote and/or co-wrote some of the bands most propulsive and weird songs. Brainstorm, Master of the Universe, Shouldn't Do That, D-Rider, and others. Without Nik, Lemmy and the ingenious Robert Calvert, the Hawkwind of the Space Ritual/In Search of Space period-- arguably the band's zenith-- would never have been. He also brought Robert Calvert into the band. Here's a tribute to Nik T. fr The Guardian: https://www.theguardian.com/music/2022/nov/13/open-minded-and-truly-eclectic-nik-turner-was-the-spirit-of-hawkwind

В конце 70х они выдавали настоящий панк,не хуже Buzzcocks того же времени.Их альбому PXR 5 нужно уделять больше внимания.

For me, 1973 was the peak of their sonic attack. My favourite albums by Dave Brock and company go in order of 1. Space Ritual, 2. Doremi Fasol Latido, 3. In Search of Space. I assume Space Ritual has fewer listeners because the scrobbles may get skewed due to it being a 2 CD set.

the whole album is marvellous, in my opinion (i think we are both adult enough to give by assumption that everything we write is our own opinion). despite you are a lofty old lady at times, I must admit that arguing with you is somehow interesting, and you give me credits when you think I am right.

It's not complexity, or technicality, or even the songwriting. It's the overall concept and atmosphere, and overall experience; something just clicks, connects for me. I have rather casual knowledge of 70's psych and space rock, and I won't argue when someone says there are better bands from a musical standpoint, but with Hawkwind I fell in love on first listen.

Latest album "Into The Woods" is really amazingly great, groovy and kinda "mysterious". Besides, it's both very "modern" and traditional at the same time. Seems Hawkwind still have a lot to tell.

Rip Lemmy, LSD and Stacia's boobs were a good plan for going out to Hawkwind's gig in the seventies.
