Deroth-Rus-
just boring, bland prog, the last interesting album was Eight Ways. This one cannot be compared with the first three masterpieces

Haven't heard last album, but previous two were in fact average and forced imo. First three (with special place for the debut, which is unique and beautiful) are unbeatable.

The new album "Old eyes, new heart" is amazing! So happy they keep putting out solid albums year after year.

They're working on a new album, “Old Eyes, New Heart” (release date tbd?). The cover art will feature a couple paintings by the Kirkevaag siblings' dad - who sadly passed away in February this year.

They said the gig in Hamar on Sept 16 was their last one before their next album. They were also putting filming for a music video on Oct 22nd-ish. So... we should be close to hearing concrete details on a new release soon!

I'd be surprised to see a new record in 2021; on social media they are busy promoting a film they just released: "Howl of the Underdogs."

Their whole discography is unique and most of records are excellent or at least very good. But Mercury is amazing atmospheric doom metal masterpiece without single flaw and along The Gathering's "Mandylion" +"Joy Parade" by Flowing Tears & Withered Flowers is the best female doom/gothic album of all time.

I would never say Mercury is anything but atmospheric. Especially comparing to Mandylion it has zero atmosphere. Madder Mortem never had own style. It is a second league band. They sound nothing special and sometimes I have trouble to remember what I am listening to when my long playlist reach this album unexpectedly. Under Another Moon's interlude sounds like Metallica's Load album. It always makes me wait for forthcoming sounds I remember from very memorable Load. That is bad because composition do not has anything intriguing to give when a listener is thinking about another records instead. There is no memorable composition at Mercury. It sounds like someone not very competent try to build their own at The Gathering vaguely embraced sound. At the end, every album by them is tiring and even their best Deadlands do not manage to keep one invested past few first songs.

Oh, I forgot all about Flowing Tears! I used to love them but haven't listened to them in forever! --- @Kajtek666, did you get into "Joy Parade," "Mercury," and "Mandylion" around the same time? That's a nice spread.

Nope, that wasn't the same time. I've discovered "Mandylion" just after it has been released, mainly due to "Leaves" video, saw in Headbangers Ball. Immediately fell in love with this exceptional piece of art. Next was "Mercury", ca. 2005 but I truly appreciated it's magic at the beginning of previous decade (took some time as you see ;)) Last one was "Joy Parade", which was discovered after reading enthustiastic review on Metal Archives ca. 2015/2016. It's different, than aforementioned two albums, but on the same, top class level of female fronted doom/gothic metal. I would give a lot to experience the same level of excitement, felt during digging thru those magical albums.

I only learned about MM in 2017 and picked up "Deadlands" and "Mercury" a couple years later - in 2019. As you say, both albums are taking some time to grow on me but are always rewarding listens :). When different songs and track sequences click it's the best thing! I don't think I've been this excited about a "new" gothic/doom/prog metal discovery in a loong time... like back in early/mid 00's when I first got into The Gathering, Flowing Tears & Withered Flowers, and similar bands.

Last time I remembered I thought they disbanded. It's good to hear new material.

The song "My Name is Silence reminds" me of the female version Paradise Lost song "Channel of Pain."

Still cannot decide which record of MM is my fav one. Marrow confused me a lot. I love the new record. It has an amazing tune and songwriting. A great mix of Deadlands and Eight Ways in a massive Red In Tooth And Claw production!

Despite repeated attempts, I could relate or connect to Red in Tooth and Claw - that album just didn't feel Madder Mortem to me, it seemed a borrowed thing and somehow doesn't belong in their legacy, which doesn't imply it wasn't a good album by any reasonable measure. Marrow is a true return I've been looking forward ever since the Eight Ways times. So, yes, welcome back!

I feel llike their songs are adjusting my heart beat. When the song starts I get in the mood so quickly. The sound is perfect, this is the kinda band I would like to listen live. I discovered them in 2013 and still listen their songs time-to-time. I'm currently trying to love their 2016 album.

Well, people from the band... I hope you will eventually release your new album and I will be able to listen to it before my god damn country collapsed or world burnt down in WWIII. You may believe me or not, but new MM album is in my expectation list along with New Horizons reaching Pluto and James Webb space telescope launch. Hurry a bit :)

From off site A sign of life! We've received a lot of worried messages lately, asking if we're still active? Just a quick message to let you all know we're still very much alive. More than that. Our next album is all recorded and done with, except for mixing and mastering and we're also rehearsing with a new guitarist. So things are shaping up for the fall of 2014 and for the future. On friday July 11th we're playing at the festival Livestock at Alvdal in rural Norway.
