Biography
The Black Ships is an name of at least two rock bands:
An English rock band (after mid-2012, also known as Black Submarine), formed in November 2008 by former Verve members Nick McCabe and Simon Jones, following the split of the Verve after the release of the 2008 reunion album Forth.
The band also features Coldplay/Goldfrapp collaborator Davide Rossi, who also featured on Forth and shared the stage with the band at festivals including T In The Park and Glastonbury Festival, and drummer Mig Schillace who has also worked with Portishead.
The band started rehearsing in Copenhagen before deciding on the band name in March/April 2009 and released their long awaited début EP Kurofone (Jun 2011).
The band also made their live début in June 2011 at King's College Students Union in London, featuring a host of different vocalists including Amelia Tucker, David McKellar and Charley Bickers.
The band also contributed a version of Rope Soul'd to the John Martyn tribute album "Johnny Boy Would Love This: A Tribute To John Martyn" (Aug 2011).

A U.S. rock band who formed in 2010 after John Gill and Shane Sanchez, formerly the guitarist and bassist of Severe Severe, started rehearsing material with Jules Verne, with whom they had collaborated previously on the 2010 reunion album Break Up the Dance, with drummer Ben Patten.
In 2011 the band self-released the album entitled Ocean
In 2015 the ban self-released the album Dead Empires
