la! NEU? is a loose collective of Klaus Dinger and (mostly) younger musicians. Their records were recorded quite quickly and spontaneously, with a total of 7 (including 3 double-disc live albums) released in the two and a half years of the band's existence (December 1995-June 1998).
The la! NEU? name was also used by on releases by several associated artists (such as pianist Rembrandt Lensink's solo album 'God Strikes Back', Bluepoint Underground's album 'Bluepoint Underground in New York City' and Die With Dignity's album 'Kraut?'. Dinger also attached the band-name to some of his own archival releases, such as 'Blue', recorded in 1987 but released in 1999. After the 2001 release of 'Live at Kunsthalle Dusseldorf' (a recording of la! NEU?'s final concert in 1998) the name has fallen out of use.
The band grew out of jamming sessions in late 1995 between Dinger's previous band Die Engel Des Herrn and Dusseldorf group Kreidler, and was originally concieved as a supergroup. However, Dinger's bandmates Gerhard Michel and Klaus Immig soon dropped out, along with several members of Kreidler. Vocalist Vickoria Wehrmeister was brought in from another Dusseldorf group Superbilk and Dinger's friend Rembrandt Lensink completed the core membership. Various shifting line-ups performed on releases, at times including Dinger's mother and brother as well as Spinello Elze.

la! NEU? released solely on Japanese record label 'Captain Trip Records', and CDs are notable for their expansive and artistic booklets which reflect Dinger's interest in Pop Art. Dinger was criticised by his ex-Neu! bandmate Michael Rother for what Rother saw as Dinger's cynical attempts to get money from the NEU! name through la! NEU?. The quality of the music produced, however, belies this suggestion.
