A lot of bluesy rock have been overhyped recently as an allegedly early metal music examples, and often undeservedly so. Yet Sweet almost never get proper recognition, albeit being real speed metal pioneers with songs like 'Set Me Free', 'She Gimme Lovin' and others. Sweet should be honored as much as Deep Purple and Judas Priest in respect to their contribution in music development, sadly their glam rock background overshadowed their innovating influence. Nevertheless all of their music was at least decent, even those bubblegum pop songs were nice as well.

yea I agree, a lot of bands get less recognised than the big names (liked Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple and Black Sabbath) for development of metal music, also bands like Nazareth, Budgie, Rush, Uriah Heep, and early Queen albums as well.

The best festival, on which I have been was, in small mountain town called Lovech. The headliners were Uriah Heep, Nazareth and Sweet. Proper Rock 'n' Roll show.

I'm fan of Kiss, Van Halen and the Southern rock bands, but in general the English rock bands from the 70's are better than the same period bands in The States.

It's fascinating how much 1970s glam rock is proto-punk and proto-metal at the same time. I think Sweet captures that aspect of glam more than any band from the movement I've heard so far.
