The Cure - Greatest Hits (2001) Дуже популярна збірка. Британське видання містить The Caterpillar та Pictures of You замість The Walk. Також ця компіляція отримала 2 нові пісні: Cut Here та Just Say Yes. Замість двох останніх, краще б додали Hot Hot Hot, Fascination Street або Letter to Ellise. Тому слід обрати 2 збірки з синглами: Staring At The Sea - The Singles (1986) та Galore: The Singles 1987-1997.

I dunno why fans are making it out like owning this greatest hits album is a hate crime, I have 1-2 greatest hits albums of bands that I own 5+ original studio length albums from. Sometimes you just want the hits.

I don't know why it says only 19 tracks. Mine is 2 volumes with 22 tracks on the first one and 17 tracks on the second one.

A great compilation, but where is Pictures of You? That is my absolute favorite song by them, and it was a hit I;m pretty sure. I mean, I saw the music video for it on VH1 Classic, so it must have been a hit right? I heard Robert Smith personally compiled this, so maybe he doesn't like the song for some stupid reason.

Y'all are forgetting that the point of a "Greatest Hits" album isn't to contain all their best deep cuts, it's greatest HITS album, if a song you love (aka most things from the first 4 albums) isn't on here it's because it wasn't a hit (with the notable exception of Pictures of You but they can't all be winners). Now stop complaining about this album and just listen to what you want to listen to.

Well, to be honest it's actually pretty hard to make a solid comp of their best songs, cause even RS sometimes can't even be sure about it. Like, for example, a few years ago he said before playing "Stop Dead" that he "still thinks it was a single". However, the fans have their point, this compilation is the worst example of any "The Best Of/Greatest Hits" among the big bands. It feels like RS made it just for the last three songs, which are extremely far from being called "greatest". The benefit of such releases is to help the unaware listeners to get into the band’s stuff. This compilation does not deliver.

Just Say Yes and Cut Here were released FOR the Greatest Hits album, something that's common, heaps of artists release songs unique to their greatest hits album. Perhaps you got me at Wrong Number, but it had some chart success, landing at number 8 on the US modern rock charts.

One new song for promo is more than enough. Also, we'd better not to bring a "chart success" to the table with missing "Fascination Street" that kinda occupied the top of that US MR chart you mentioned for weeks. Needless to say about the fact that some of their most well-known songs never were singles.

I'm starting to agree with you here, even I can agree it's not a perfect compilation, perhaps 2 promo songs is too much and perhaps the exclusion of Fascination Street is odd, but at the release of this album, the band had 28 charting singles, it would have been impossible to fit that onto one disc so making sacrifices was necessary. Also, well known does not mean "hit", which is y'know the point of this album. I'll agree that this isn't the best way to get into the Cure but it serves its purpose of having a simple compilation to round up some of the band's most successful songs on a single disc.

I love this album, and I'm saying that as a MASSIVE fan of The Cure, and not a casual fan. I always listened to it on repeat during long road trips when I didn't want to bring a ton of CDs (this was before the days of Bluetooth). Listening to this album now, with these songs in this order, brings back a lot of great memories.

Why so much hate? I'm not a fan, I just really like several songs and they're on this compilation. I want to buy them and by chance listen to some more. If I'd like all of them after listening to best of, I'd totally go buy albums. What's the problem?

Compilations only make sense if they are cross-label, and most of them are sucky too. Buy individual albums.

Does not represent any side of the band, strange compilation, except the Forest maybe

I agree with those who say get the original albums in whichever order you prefer. Even though they have a lot it just makes it better. Greatest hits albums always disappoint it some way. The four shown above are a pretty good starting point.

It seems that a version exists, which replaces "The Walk" with "The Caterpillar" and "Pictures of You". I wish they included "Pictures..." on the standard edition – it was quite successful IIRC, and it's my favourite Cure song ever. "A Letter to Elise" is great too but it was kind of a flop to be honest. Also, there's already "High" and "Friday..." from Wish and no album is represented here by more that two tracks.

You know, this IS a great introduction to The Cure because if you like what is presented here you'll definitely want to dig out more of their stuff, and it's widely available (unlike Galore or Staring at the Sea). (Of course it's lacking lots of quality material but you know, it says "Greatest Hits" on the cover...) I know it worked for me – thanks to the inclusion of "Lullaby" and "Love Song" I got Disintegration... which has since become one of my favourite albums of all time.

No fan can ever agree on a perfect compilation album. However, it's a good introduction to people who have never listened to The Cure.
