The acoustic era refers to the way records were recorded before 1925. The acoustic recording process required musicians to perform into a large horn or what some artists would later recall as being a funnel or tube. Studios were equipped with horns of all sizes, shapes and lengths–some round, some square, some flared at the mouth.
