I urge you to check out the French group Aksak Maboul: namely, their 2014 archival record "Ex-Futur Album" (recorded in 1980-1983) and "Figures" from 2020. I think you'll be more than pleasantly surprised.

I've got a little tip for ya. 'This Is Not A Democracy', an EP by Dutch artist Robin Kester. She's a big Broadcast fan and it shows. I think you'll like it.

'Where's One?' is a great album. There's some absolute gems throughout. I enjoyed The Children Of Alice, but found that it didn't quite live up to my expectations. It's an interesting record, but I usually stop listening after the second track or so, because by then it's lost its grip on me. The ToiToiToi album sits better with me, I think.

My favourite albums of the year were mostly ones I already knew. My favourite record of 2017, however, was 'Where's One?' by The Citradels. Don't know if that's your thing, but I loved it. Other new favourites were 'Damage and Joy' by The Jesus And Mary Chain and 'angst' by Nits. How about you?

Yeah, it was a little bit more toned down. Not a bad album by any means, but I would say it's one of his weaker ones.

Have heard good things about those Jon Brooks albums, but they're not available on Spotify, which is a bummer. Other hauntology-kinda albums you might want to check out are 'A Thousand Strands' by The Dandelion Set and 'Soft Zoo' by A Small Party Of Pressure.

Yeah, I heard parts of the album were already released as part of the Folklore Tapes project, or I think that's what it's called. I have no problem with listening to the whole thing in one sitting, but it kinda makes for weird scrobbling. For example: you have listened to a Focus Group album in its entirety five times, and you have listened to the Children of Alice album five times. The Focus Group scrobble count will be much, much higher, because it's divided into all those little parts, and the COA album is made up of only four. And in some way I find that irritating. It's no big deal, really, but your charts get kinda skewed that way, if you know what I mean.

No problem. As for Children Of Alice: I've only listened through the whole album twice, I think, but I liked it. I would've liked it better if they had broken up the four passages into smaller bits (for my personal playlists and such), but it's a fascinating album. The laughing and slapping part weirded me out a little, but that's a good thing with this kind of music. I think it's a nice touch. There's a new Focus Group album coming out next month, as well, really looking forward to that.

Have you heard the ToiToiToi album on Ghost Box yet? I like it quite a bit. Sounds a lot like The Focus Group, just a little more fleshed out.

Hey Arsenic, I made a flowchart for someone who wanted to get into the Nits, and I figured you maybe could use it, too. It doesn't look very fancy, but I was more concerned with clear directions and such. http://i.imgur.com/Xhr1Wcf.jpg

Glad you like them. Their first three records, 'TENT', 'New Flat' and 'Work' are all full of angular, jerky pop with the oddball vibe that's very typical to them. After that, they began to broaden their palette and starting to write more atmospheric, melancholic stuff. They always kept their penchant for weirdness, though, and those kind of songs would keep creepin' up all the time throughout their later work. They have no flat-out bad albums, I find, although there's some I think you'd enjoy less (like 'Doing The Dishes', an experiment in traditional rock that didn't go too well and which I'd place at the bottom, if I had to make a ranking), but generally I think you'd find some enjoyable stuff in most of them, looking at the rest of your library. I could compile a list of specific recommendations, if you'd like, but feel free to dive in yourself.

I don't know for sure if you'll like it, but I think you should try some Nits, one of my favourite bands. They've had some minor hits, but you should look beyond that, as some of their most interesting and unusual works are hidden away in the deep cuts. They employ their instruments in a really interesting way, adding all sorts of little textures and odd melodies. Try, for example, songs like 'Man Of Straw', 'Aloha Drums', 'Crane Driver', '5 Hammering Men', 'Oom-Pah-Pah', 'His First Object', 'Safety In Numbers', 'Ping Pong'. They're from a totally different scene, but in some ways I think musical similarities can be drawn between them and bands like Pram and The Residents. Give 'em a go if you like.

I didn't know about the PIAS label, but then it really sounds interesting! The mentioned movie is really great I think, not my favourite by Woody, but definitely among the top 5 (now it was a tricky answer because I've seen only 5 WA movies, haha). I think it was "Wings of Desire" what I know by its name. My must-see movie list is so long, I just added this one too, but one life is not enough to watch them all! And answering to your questions, the second photo from the bottom was a tiny village in Austria, called Hallstatt. It's famous for a bunch of painted skulls, and the story behind them is really interesting too. This photo is not a big deal, but the others couldn't fit here because they were horizontal (ah, the compulsions!). The other one is from Denmark, a seashore called Møns Klint.

I'll definitely try out the NWW albums you recommended, so thanks! And that mask was actually a doll in the window. It's not so visible, but there was a glass of Guinness beer next to the doll - the photo was taken in Dublin. And it really looked like an exast scene from Nosferatu. I must check out Wim Wenders because I think I've heard about some of his movies, but I've never seen them. Recently I try to discover Woody Allen's movies and I found his early films really good, I just keep them watching again and again. He receives so much hate from people I know, but I don't think they've ever seen a WA movie... I like to discover stuff what others hate, not because it's someting "cool", I just always question others judgement all the time.

Thanks for both the friend request and the kind words! I don't think these pics really have that so-called artistic value, but they mean a lot to me. On the last photo you can see a distant stone sculpture too. It was taken in this sculpture park in Hungary. Watching silent movies became one of my main hobbies, I mostly watch some great German movies like Nosferatu, Dr. Caligari or Metropolis, but my biggest fav is Buster Keaton and his (silent) movies. Out West is a bizarre parody of old western movies, so if you ever come to watch it, you should keep it in mind (because it's a quite silly movie). :D Wow, I've heard about Steven Stapleton, also appeared in a song name by Venetian Snares (what I listen to a lot nowadays). I think I must give an other try to Nurse With Wound, I didn't like it when I heard it first, but I'll definitely try these albums you mentioned!

The first LPD record I heard was The Gethsemane Option and the sound of that album was so good that it was the main thing which grabbed my attention! But I still not reached the Chemical Playschool series, I try to listen more what I've heard yet. Yes, that building is a hotel, I checked out it's full name, but I just call itt "Hyatt hotel" all the time. It has a spinning tower-like restaurant on the top, that was the thing I wanted to visit but I found this hall very attractive too. All these b&w pics were made by me. And the movie called "Out West" from 1918. So an ancient piece of movie I can say, haha. I really like this guy called Buster Keaton. He later became one of the most important silent move actor-directors. But what kind of drawing is that what you have on your own avatar? Looks interesting!

Hello hello! I'm quite new to LPD, but it was an instant love, no question. But I'm still discovering their music, such an enormous discography! My first big love was The Tower and I think it's still my fav. Really dig that creepy atmosphere. But my choice doesn't mean that I don't like their later stuff! I think Plutonium Blonde is the big love from the newer records. And what's your favorite by them? Oh and that building is the Hyatt Regency Houston in... Houston. :D

I'm listening to Gash now and you're right that it is really good. Whoever told me it wasn't clearly couldn't get past the recording quality. The rhythms they've got going are amazing and I wish they'd kept a bit more of that element. You can tell they're not as experienced because they're having trouble keeping on the beat sometimes, but in a way I like that because I admire them so much and like being able to see that they're imperfect too (actually the fact that Pram is so openly imperfect is one of my favourite parts of the band). Some of the tracks even manage to get past the bad recording quality and are actually pretty listenable. I think you should take a listen to Disco Inferno because I think you might like them. I think they're brilliant and show them to anyone who'll look, of course. They were doing really neat things using guitars and a digital drumkit to trigger MIDI recordings. Here's a track: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WYcj3iv8n_c

Museum of Imaginary Animals or The Stars are So Big... were my favourite Pram albums for a long time but I think at the moment it's Telemetric Melodies. I've actually never heard Gash. Someone told me it was really underwhelming and I never bothered to look at it because I was so satisfied with what I already had from Pram haha.
