Lmao back in like maybe 2008 or so when I was in highschool I had myspace beef with a guy in the town next to mine, and he wanted me to meet him at the local venue we both frequented so we could fight it out. I specifically remember him messaging me "bet you wouldn't say that to my face at the 3 inches of blood show" and honestly I was pretty intimidated bc I'd never heard of them and the name sounded like one of those toughguy xmoshxcorex bands that were popular at the time, so in fear of being jumped by a buncha meatheads I didn't go to the show. I'm now 30 yrs old listening to this band for the first time and I cannot stop laughing

To clarify, they're playing one show at the Commodore in Vancouver. I don't really do travel, but I'm seriously considering the trip west to see them. Tickets went on sale today.

something i've been wondering, yes it's clear that 3IOB is not metalcore but a sort of retrospectical form of modern power-heavy metal for the youngsters after the millennium, but are they in fact part of the new wave of american heavy metal movement? they were promoted by Roadrunner (around 2005 i think) alongside bands like Trivium, The Agony Scene, Still Remains right in the middle of the nwoahm explosion that also included Killswitch Engage, Shadows Fall, Chimaira, Darkest Hour, DevilDriver, God Forbid, Lamb Of God... what you guys think? nwoahm or not?

I'd say they were more a victim of bad timing. Those bands were popular on the same record label at that time and they ended up getting lumped in, despite being obviously superior. Same deal with deathcore/Black Dahlia Murder.

technically nwoahm is NOT metalcore, just the re-emerging US metal scene post-2000 (and sometimes bands that formed in the 90s and were at their peek again after the millennium) that was influenced by 90s metal acts like Biohazard, Pantera, Machine Head, Fear Factory, Type O Negative and influenced by European melo-death rifing and euro metallic hardcore.... But some bands dared to go beyond that spectrum... like Mastodon, Strapping Young Lad and Nevermore... and were therefor because of the timing and place often associated wih nwoahm I assume

I remember an early review for their 2004 album, where the reviewer was amazed by the Maiden/Judas Priest-esque style and the band's old school banshee-esque vocals amidst a time where everyone was just brutalizng their vocals chords. 3IOB really stood out in the 00's. Amazing band!

Why do so many people say that Advance and Vanquish was this bands only good album? It isn't bad but it sounds exactly like what it is, hardcore kids pretending to play heavy metal. It wasn't until their next album that the band finally started to sound like they had real balls.

Well at least they destroyed plenty of orcs before they shut down the blades. RIP 3 Inches of Blood

After all these years, Advance and Vanquish is still their only good record. Very good, yes, but sadly the only one worth listening to.

A really great heavy metal band. I used to think they were a joke and trying to be the next Manowar. :P

Did they ever reach the peaks of Advance and Vanquish again? Did they ever beat 'Premonition Of Pain'?

Only metal band that isn't Protest The Hero to ever come to Newfoundland...NL Metalfest 2012. What a gig. Never forget. (might add that these guys are even better live than on record, though half of that could be because I prefer J-Hagz' harsh vocals...Hooper's got a real...thing going on in his growls, that I don't like and cannot put my finger on)

I wouldn't say just speed/thrash, speed and thrash definitely plays a role in their music but you can't leave out power/traditional metal. There's also a pretty big melodic death metal influence in their music, you cannot deny a huge At the Gates influence is in their music, I think the melo-death element is what people are misinterpeting as metalcore, foolishly may I add, saying there's -core in their music is just silly. I suppose some people just don't have a lot of insight on genres, fair enough.
