I think that saying "...supporting someone in a different political party doesn't change that..." shows how little you know of anarchism.

Wow, loonakun turned something that was supposed to be against being judgmental and ended up with something really obnoxious, judgmental, to the point that any drop of validity it had is lost. Great job. Yeah, consistently valuing autonomy and opposing coercion makes you a stagnant, close-minded stereotype. How could I have been so blind to the fact that we anarchists are like super close-minded folk, what with all our libertarianism and what not? Give coercion, war, racism, patriarchy, and slavery a chance, eh? They're JUST different opinions, and we're wrong to oppose them. To please you, let's call Against ME! HYPOCRITICAL sellouts instead and assume the strange notion that they still have anarchist ideas. Yeah, while I'm at it, I'll start giving everyone the benefit of the doubt and assume that even fascists are just hypocritical anarchists. =/

Many anarchists are nothing more than people who bought a tee-shirt with a big, red A on it from Hot Topic once, and just like the idea because it makes them sound tough. You can replace the word "liberal" in that song with just about anything and the sentiment would still apply. Perhaps you should stop living as a stereotype and open yourself to the possibility that there is a lot to be gained from other opinions and ways of living. Even if as you learn you don't agree with everything, you'll still be learning and have a better understanding of the world around you.

Turin, Maybe because human beings are complex individuals, and just because you agree with the morals and values of one individual does not mean that you are now suddenly different. Liberal and Anarchist are just generalizing words that act as blanket terms. I know this might be hard to understand, but just because you agree with one person does not mean you have magically turned into a "liberal sellout". I'm pretty sure that the boys still have the same ideals and values they did before, and supporting someone in a different political party doesn't change that. If they think Obama is acting like an idiot, I'm pretty sure they'll let us know how they feel. The song itself is about an individual being a "spineless liberal", not every single liberal ever. There are exceptions to every rule, and there are definitely many contrived anarchists running around. Not all liberals do nothing but politically masturbate each other, some actually do things.

I mean, how can you support Barack Obama and Eric McDavid at the same time? It escapes me.

It's amazing how someone can write this kind of song with so much heart and ideal, a song that shows how spineless/cowardly/hypocritical liberals really are, and then become liberal sellouts themselves and endorse Obama. Did they actually believe Obama is genuine change or is it just the money talking? It's really sad, but this song still always picks me up and i love it. And still after all that, Tom goes and writes a beautiful ballad about an anarchist (Anna is a Stool Pigeon). I just don't get it...

sometimes selling lots isn't selling out. new wave brought Against me! to the masses, so that people would see New Wave , then hear about the older stuff against me! did and then realize how awesome against me! are.

The amazing thing about this song is how awesome it is given that the band who is principally known for performing it are apolitical, brain-dead assholes.

i like against me as much as anyone else (except the new album which is alright ish) but i mean, come on. its kind of obvious that if they signed to a major label that is giving up on your anarchist principles man..i dont want to hear any bollocks about them "getting anarchism out to a wider audience" because their politics was quite clearly turned down into liberal "down with bush man!!!!" politics if any politics at all. and also "christian anarcho socialist"? well done for denying institutions then inheriting ideas from one.

Actually, I consider myself a Christian Anarcho-Socialist [but other than typing this out here I've never said that to anyone], so if someone considers [all] anarchy to be "childish"... perhaps they haven't read enough? I would have to say though, this song is mostly satire and a song that always gets me to laugh. Who cares whether or not Against Me! actually are/were "true" anarchists, etc. Brothers and sisters, get a sense of humor. Like, now! =]

to everyone who is defending against me!'s current status - it would be different if they actually did stay true to their music. but they didn't. new wave is a disgrace to the music industry as a whole. they went from folk punk to shitty pop music. not to mention, some australian pop singer named ben lee did a complete cover of new wave. they went from blatantly vocalizing their anarchist ideals to doing music videos for 'rock the vote.' nuffsed. bottom line- they didn't stay true to their beliefs nor their music. against me! is dead. it's sad but true.

ha! I remembered when labels mattered to. Once you get out of high school and grow up, you don't care so much. You just hate going to shows with a bunch of high schoolers, Against me probably matured as well and realized they too had to make money and not care so much if they save a life other than their own. It's not selling out, it's the cycle of surviving.
