"Death is Little More" is even better than you could expect from singles, it has everything: frantic, unrelenting pace bordering on insanity (like in "Like Petals from a Stem" which is this close to being full-on powerviolence/grindcore), sudden tempo changes (more so than they previously did on YRW and BB), crushing breakdowns that, at times, are as heavy as some of the deathcore records of old, dissonant riffage reminiscent of Chamber and Vein.fm, amazing melodies (and even an epic two-part solo in the self-titled song) that sometimes sound not unlike the ones you can hear in swedish metalcore from the late 00s/early 10s (but maybe it's just me), some electronic elements (the synth part on "Blame's Burden" comes right out of the blue and is actually crazy good and fitting), clean singing that sounds differently every time it appears throughout the album and the production that fluctuates from minimalistic and claustrophobic to rich and atmospheric, but stays very raw and noisy.

This album is basically just 33 minutes of unstoppable manic-depressive aggression, bordering on complete psychosis, a half-hour-long cry of absolute grief and anguish that ends as abruptly as it starts, with a brief glimmer of hope right at the end, and while it draws many influences from different parts of the -core spectrum, it is still its own record and is by no means derivative (well, maybe only in a good sense of the word). I'm sure this album will become one of the seminal records of the current metalcore revival wave.

I'm not going to hold my breath, since we're only 3 months into 2024, but this album might just run away with the AOTY title, it sounds untouchable now; Knocked Loose are gonna have to pull out all the stops to be able to compete with it. "Burying Brightness" was already a massive upgrade over "Your Receding Warmth", but this here is yet another massive upgrade, makes you wonder if there's any way they can outdo themselves yet again in the future. Still, if it wasn't clear before, it is now: Boundaries deserve the world.

Really crazy how in 10 years they managed to transform themselves from a cookie cutter downtempo deathcore outfit into one of the stalwarts of metalcore.

Album of the year. Their discography is so impressive—theyll hopefully be around for a long time!

To you it's not, to me it is. But glad you needed to set the record straight for everyone.

Ive already seen people bitching about the cleans again but I think they work great. New single is good and makes sense given the tracks we heard on Burying Brightness.

I like the next two singles even more, especially "scars on a soul", thoroughly enjoying this dark and frantic sound that they've developed over the years

Definitely up there as an AOTY contender for me. Utterly fucking brilliant. Only tiny complaint would be: less chugs, more In Flames riffs pls

imo their current sound is almost perfect in terms of showing what the actual mid-00s metalcore (not melodic metalcore influenced by swedish mdm, like kse, aild and darkest hour) used to be about: hardcore base, but faster, more intense and distorted, with just a tinge of dm riffs to keep things interesting

I entirely respect your view mate, but I don't agree; for me the best bands from that period were the opposite: MDM base but hardcore punk extremity, aggression etc. I'd prefer that balance. But at the end of the day, given how niche that always was even at the time, I'll take what I can get haha, and Boundaries are fucking fantastic

yeah, even with all this 00s metalcore revival going on, fresh sounding acts are still hard to come by, most of the new bands sound very similar to each other (though it's true for all the genres that were quickly gaining traction in the past), while boundaries and about a dozen of other bands are moving the genre forward; kinda funny that they started out as a downtempo deathcore band but missed that hype train, then repackaged themselves and are now one of the founders of a completely different sound

While I’ve always liked Matt’s lyrics, they REALLY shine on Burying Brightness. Heavy hitting lyrics, and even heavier breakdowns. The new album is a beautiful and brutal step forward from Your Receding Warmth.

haha you should check their 2015 ep 'defector', it's basically downtempo deathcore but with hc vox

yeah it was lol but after reading a bit, i think the whole situation was kinda overblown by some people, it was just teens in a toxic relationship...and the band handled it pretty well so

New album "Your Receding Warmth" is very tasty! Love these punchy riffs, hellish vocals and sick breakdowns!

'my body on gloom' sounds like mid-00s metalcore revival, awesome! and to think they started out as a downtempo outfit, that's a really cool genre progression right here
