One of the BEST bands ever, period. I'm disappointed that a lot of my peers had no idea who Dio is before I told them about them.

@Bruno-Thrasher @Willgregg10 Yes indeed. How about Angry Machines, Magica, Killing the Dragon and Master of the Moon? By far the most underrated AND under appreciated albums in his whole entire discography. Even Lock Up the Wolves to a certain extent is underrated as well. Guess his 90's & 00's albums don't get much recognition. The only odd exception is Sacred Heart, which came out in the 1980's, Dio's best decade of music.

One of the greatest singers in the entire history of recorded music. Any singer regardless of genre could benefit from studying him.

My dad has said he doesn't like Dio because it's too "screamy", he likes black metal and he thinks Dio is too "screamy"

Dio rules! He is one of the most important metal gods along with Ozzy, Lemmy and Halford!

I can't believe that even on this awesome artist there is a fucking pop music stealing the name. It's simply abominable

"He should not have taken his name" lol, its literally a short way of saying his own first name. It's two different artists with completely different music. Stop trying to blame artists for Last.fm shortcomings.

He should know who Dio was come on, last.fm also sucks because it does nothing about that, ok... but see the afore mentioned names

This may be a very unpopular opinion but I would consider Strange Highways and Angry Machines as the best of the best when it comes to Dio's discography. The albums are as good as all his work with Black Sabbath and the album The Devil Yo Know.

I'd probably trade Dream Evil for Sacred Heart, but I'd definitely trade it for Strange Highways. That album is so underrated imo.

Dio was really good at his analogies and he was pretty scholarly in his knowledge of fantasy, in the legend of King Arthur when he goes to the lake to retrieve the sword there's imagery usually depicting a rainbow that pops out after the ordeal which is used to symbolize an adventure. The first reference he makes to the legend is on the last Rainbow album he appeared on, Long Live Rock ‘n’ Roll. In Lady of the Lake, he sings in the first person, about preparing himself to take the sword and begin his quest. Rainbow was collapsing at the time and Dio found Blackmore increasingly impossible to work with. In this song, he imagined himself ready to strike out on his own and become something more. “I know she waits below, only to rise on command. When she comes for me she’s got my life in her hands.”
