Doug Hopkins actually lived the last verse. He saw his girlfriend who had cheated on him and she sucker-punched him and left him with a black eye, hence the "Your boyfriend's over, I watch your light go out" lyric. This song is really sad. Like, you can hear the despondency and resignation in Robin Wilson's voice. It's probably my favorite song by Gin Blossoms because of this.

I didn't know that. It makes a great song even better. So many great lyrics/verses throughout this classic.

I hate when people say guilty pleasure. You shouldn't feel guilty for something that gives you pleasure. ;) Anyway, amazing song. Takes me back.

I can't get this song out of my head. The lyrics are so eloquent and the vocals are perfect.

It's all about the vocals and drums in this song. The high hat opening to a build up. Then closing. Then opening up again to the chorus. My current favorite song.

Rob's tragic lyrics were brought to life by the vocalist; creating a dynamic that made that album still quie listenable. While not a song to reflect my demons, it still shows so much true emotion.

Never knew this song at the time but since hearing it for the first time recently it still manages to transport me back to that era and gives me a sense of nostalgia ...good track.
