I obviously prefer their old stuff by a landslide but A Sense Of Purpose was quite alright imo.

Subterranean is the best fucking melodeath release ever. Colder and more evil than anything else.

LOL TRUE! Was talking about melodeath in particular but HUNGERRRR.. THE WORD OF WOLVES. RHYTHMS COLLAPSE AGAINST CLOSED DOOOOORS!!!

Well, I'd say it is still melodic death although a very twisted and dissonant kind, hence I posted reading your comment. Hard to imagine the same guys would shortly go on to destroy music in general a few years later. At least In flames isn't guilty of that so points to them.

I mean they assisted with that too haha.. Bands were writing SOTS riffs long At The Gates before anyways.

fans of the lunar strain should be pleased it is receiving a new reissue in a few weeks on notqueer butts. i don't care for it at all though. never bought a copy. No word on if they use the original masters like the dismember reissues did or not. there's no mention about anything like that because the label doesn't expect in flames fans to care about things like audio quality.

colony too, it isn't listed on the webshop but it appears on the advertisement banner on the webshop so that album will be released soon too, in July.

Funny how this band was never nicknamed "In Rock" once they shifted towards rock, like some people had a nickname for Metallica when they did that, "Rocktallica". "In Rocks" would have worked too.

When did In Flames do that? It's definitely all Metal to me, just more Alternative Metal or even Metalcore later.

Eh, not really, some songs maybe, but they never turned into an Alt Rock band to me, Alt Metal for sure.

I've burried this band 15 years ago ... but wow, Foregone sounds really nice to me!

I was very hard initially on Foregone. Maybe I was expecting something even more similar to their classic albums, but it is an excellent mix of the best of all their eras. The more you listen to the album it becomes addictive.

The only minor problem i have with it is that Anders' vocals still don't sound natural at times, and this has been a problem for me since Playground from what i remember, but i'll have to listen to some of those albums again too. In terms of the music it's on par with anything up to ASOP, pretty much (well, obviously better than Soundtrack, but not better than the other albums up to that point IMO).

They had an European tour with ATG and Orbit Culture in 2022 at least, saw 'em and ATG then!

Whoa, that's quite cool! Do you like Orbit Culture? I only like one album by them so far.

I have not listened to In Flames seriously in over a decade, nothing more than a track here and there since about 2010 maybe. I'm sick and feel like shit, I think I will dig through their post 2006 butt rock catalogue and see if it's as bad as I hear. I have a pretty diverse taste, so I am sure there are a few hidden gems. Glad I wrote this, just talking into the void of nothingness.

I wonder when the sons of bitches who use bot accounts to give negative votes to artists' photos will stop.

I was very hard initially on Foregone. Maybe it's not the return I fully expected, but it's a big step forward.

probably the most overrated band from Europe, possibly even in all of metal. they had 1 great album and 4 good albums before deciding they wanted to be slightly heavier and less edgier Korn with lead guitars. they stopped being metal about a decade and a half ago or something. Is mallcore with bad grammar. not that there's anything wrong with being mallcore, just not metal.

Subterranean solos everything else. Nothing will ever be colder than that record. In Henke and Jocke We Trust.

Yep. Since Jesper left they kind of lost me. They released 5 mediocre/bad albums since ASOP, but each album had a handful of good/decent songs. They could have made 1 solid album out of like 3 songs from each of them haha

Just wanted to say I came here after Tarja's cover of "Alias". The original is so different and yet such a masterpiece (to me).

Everything after A Sense of Purpose was kind of terrible, except the new album is better again. The only thing I can't wrap my head around is how they mix/produce Anders' vocals these days, it quite literally prevents me from enjoying Foregone. Like, it gets to comical levels on some songs, especially on I, the Mask. Sounds like a terrible AI version of his voice. Very robotic and devoid of any life.

That's my biggest problem with those albums too, i'll have to revisit the ones between ASOP and this tho.

Hah, that was my first time, but i would go see 'em again. I was also gonna say i really enjoy Foregone still despite the vocal effects, the riffs are so good again it doesn't bother me that much, it did at first but the album's just getting better with each listen to me! Really hope they'll continue on this route, this is the direction i've been waiting for again since ASOP (as in, that was the last great one before this to me, so from Playground onwards), tho every album had at least some tracks i've liked, and like i said i'll have to give the others in-between more time too, some albums don't click instantly :)

It’s a return to form for sure! And you’re right about every album having good songs despite overall not being great. Honestly pretty hyped to hear what they do next,

When I think about bands and their fanbases, In Flames fanbase looks to me as most despicable, disrespectful, whiny, childish, demanding, unfit, dumb, lacking self-consciousness and overall loatheworthy of all fanbases. Anyway, solid new album, reminds me of Come Clarity a lot. Wish they would remake it into 16-bit version like they did with I, The Mask, but I doubt that this will happen.

If these fans are a minority, they're a very vocal minority, because for more than 15 years every time I saw an IF post, especially regarding newer material (even at that time) there was someone bitching about this band. However, they became somewhat "less vocal" (although still present) after "I, the Mask" and "Foregone", tho.

You are probably referring to the IF fans stuck in the '90s melodeath era. While I also prefer IFs '90s melodeath era, the following albums were pretty good. I stopped after Battles, it felt forced to me, havent heard the following albums, except for their latest, Foregone.

Near the end of the album and yet again the harder they try to appease the old fanbase the worse it sounds. I don't care if I'm the only one saying this: There's dozens of better melodeath acts around, I liked In Flames more when they played pop metal. On the plus side, this is the first time since ages when their drums don't sound like slapping a toilet hatch with a wet towel.
