Biography

John Flanagan
1). Australian folk artist from Melbourne.
2). American pop artist from New York.

1. John Flanagan grew up listening to the likes of James Taylor, Simon & Garfunkel and Joan Baez and has blended this acoustic, story telling tradition into his simple and expressive style of bluegrass/folk. He has been performing around Melbourne since 2004 as a singer and songwriter for 5 piece Melbourne band Glory Tuesday, who combine soulful melodies with a grooving rhythm section to create their unique style of folk-infused funk.

Traveling around Australia with his guitar and banjo at the start of 2008, John’s music has been inspired by the many faces and landscapes of this country. He has since joined forces with seasoned musicians Andy Zito, Mark Zito and Jane Patterson to perform the songs from his debut solo album 'Meet Me In Between'. Their warm 3-part vocal harmonies and delicate acoustic textures are now a part of Melbourne's thriving folk scene where they perform under the name 'John Flanagan and the Begin Agains'

2. Shortly thereafter a new John Flanagan showed up on the scene. On the other side of the world, New York city began pounding out the catchy dance beats, pop melodies, and rock and roll vocals of what Flanagan has labeled his "dance rock" genera. Crafted and honed in the thick of Nashville's independent music scene, Flanagan hit the streets of New York for the release of his 2011 album, "Pretty Lies."

The album's stylistic and emotional range varies in the fashion of Flanagan's favorite childhood inspirations - bands like The Beatles and ELO. Upbeat numbers weave themselves into ballads to form a charismatic journey through the range of human emotion. "I did my best to emulate the excitement of a live concert on this record," says Flanagan. Combining the musical stylings of The Killers, MIKA, and Adam Lambert, the playful zeal of Freddie Mercury and David Bowie, and the lyrics inspired by folk artists like Patty Griffin and Brandi Carlile - it is easy to witness Flanagan making a unique name for himself in the pop world.
