Originally the lead guitarist and vocalist in Helloween, he left to found his own band, Gamma Ray.
Kai Hansen has also performed with Blind Guardian, Iron Savior, Heavenly, Stormwarrior, Heavenwood, Avantasia, Angra, Heaven's Gate, Hammerfall, and Primal Fear as a guest musician.
