Lead singer Ed Kowalczyk was asked in an Australian radio interview in 1997 if R.E.M.'s Michael Stipe had sung the backing vocals at the end of the song "Pillar of Davidson." Kowalczyk laughed and replied, "No, that's just me trying as hard as I can to sound like Michael Stipe!"

A band that can only be described in their heyday as post-grunge R.E.M., and I adore that. A lot of Throwing Copper seems to be influenced by R.E.M.'s 1985 album Fables Of The Reconstruction. This can especially be said for the first track off Throwing Copper "The Dam At Otter Creek" which reminds me of "Old Man Kensey" off of Fables Of The Reconstruction.

I think it's an honor for any band to be compared with REM. They'd have love your comment.

At least they're on tour this Summer... so that's good news. I like listening to the Live at the Paradiso (2008) album they did (final thing that core lineup did) & I guess some of the issues were things like ""For some reason on that tour Ed would complain about the tuning of my guitar each and every night in the dressing room following the show. He would call Patrick at all hours of the night asking if we sounded okay. I had long talks with the techs. I begged someone to give me anything tangible that I could work on or fix. The board tapes sounded fine but the constant complaining was driving me mad. It was sucking the life out of me on stage." (Chad Taylor) Listening to it... I don't hear much there. Sounds like he'd lost his mind... watching some interview footage of Ed from the "Awake: Best of Live" period (perhaps DVD?) he's smart but he'd act almost like someone on stimulants in those conversations.

Hopefully a decade later... after doing smaller solo gigs that gave Ed a new-found appreciation for the fanbase he has & special chemistry he's had with his bandmates... those couple records with Jim Wirt (Birds of Pray, Songs from Black Mountain) weren't that bad... mixing & productions there. Musically I suppose it could have more adventurousness

Yes indeed. Very good news definitely planning on catching them this year now that they've reunited (annoys me that Third Eye Blind couldn't have done the same exact thing...)

They're both the faces of their respective bands (like the Quarterbacks on NFL teams or something) but the most important thing to me is the legacy of the music

Like Dishwalla right now existing without JR Richards... in my mind it should really be called something else... but it's just the band being happier making a little money & playing in front of 150-200 people who don't know that it's no longer the same band at all I guess...

I only like Throwing Copper and I've been listening to it since 1994. Will I like the other albums? Should I get the other albums?
