Biography

Mataplantas was a band from Buenos Aires, Argentina, formed by Pablo Malaurie, Nazareno Gil, Maximiliano Garcia and Pablo De Caro. They met at drama school, except for Malaurie who was De Caro's high school friend. At late 2000 they decided to play together and begin two tours of the Argentinian beaches, and make some recordings that haven't been released yet. Halfway through 2004 they settled for the name "Mataplantas" as a group.

In 2005 they edited their first record, entitled “El Sueño del Hombre Pulpo”, at Isopo/Warner. The record was produced by Mataplantas and Sebastián Volco. That year they were chosen by Los Inrockuptibles magazine as Revelation artist, while "El Sueño del Hombre Pulpo" ranked in the first positions as record of the year.

In November 2006. Mataplantas releases “Hickie”, their second studio album. Hickie was considered Album of the year by different sectors of the specialized press.Mataplantas was nominated as revelation band for CLARIN awards. Hickie is considered today one of the most important albums of the new Argentinian Rock.

In November 2008 Mataplantas released their third album entitled "Escape del planeta viviente", which resulted in the cross between the universes presented in their previous records, a psychedelic and experimental record with straight forward songs. The band separated in 2010. Many of the members joined together to form Cosmos and El Hipnotizador Romántico, while Pablo Malaurie decided for a solo career.
