”emails i can’t send” is the title track from Sabrina Carpenter’s fifth studio album under the same name.

The song is from the perspective of a daughter who found out her father had an affair. The lyrics show in a beautiful yet tragic way the pain, disappointment, and lack of trust that came out of this situation.

Sabrina first posted the song on Instagram with the caption “Intro”.

In an interview with Teen Vogue, Sabrina said that, inspired by a real situation, she began writing emails she’d never send to people as a way of venting. She’d later “look back at the emails and be shocked at how candid she was, but little lines or thoughts would stick out and become lyrics.” ‘Intro’ was one of the songs that came out of this structure.

"When started writing the song, was thinking about no one ever hearing those things"

"This song reminds me of my childhood. I think anytime you start to process why you are the way you are, maybe because of things that happened in your childhood, it’s always a sad realization to come to. It’s also sad when you grow up and the characters in the storybooks were not who you thought they were. I knew it would be called “Emails I Can’t Send” just purely from the way that I was writing it – almost as if it was a word vomit email."
