It's pretty remarkable how a band with so much potential can decide to sell their soul and follow whatever the scene kids are craving. Sonic Syndicate had the potential to become one of the best melodic death metal acts of the last decade, but instead they started to rapidly decline shortly after Eden Fire... sadly enough, I'm sure they garnered a much larger fanbase for doing so than if they had kept their old sound. Artistic integrity is hard to come by these days. That being said, Eden Fire is fucking fantastic, and shows that melodic death metal CAN still be great in the 21st century... if only bands would stop changing from melodeath to 'core/alternative rock/emo/whatever. [13] first and last really good album...

Technicly, they're Post-Hardcore/Metalcore. Pure metalcore on the other hand is like the bands you mentioned. Sorry, I should've been more accurate. I felt the same way about the album in the beginning. But after listening to it more, it really grew on me. Songs like Prelude To Extinction, Where The Black Lotus Grows and Soulstone Splinter are sweet. But if you don't like it, that's perfectly fine... It's not my favorite S.S. album either. My fave is LAOD.

Breakdowns is a typical -core thing, so I don't know why you're bringing it up. And yes, I know Maiden is metal. Never said anything to the contrary. I still see very few, if ANY scene-kids who listen to Maiden. Pure metal is the kind of metal that can be traced all the way back to the earliest of Black Sabbath. Pure metal doesn't have lame outside inflluences of Hip-Hop/Rap (Nu-Metal) or punk (Metalcore bands like We Came As Romans, Attack Attack etc.)

Still, scene-kids usually doesn't like pure metal, as far as I've experienced.

BTW, if you want another Eden Fire song, you can listen to the pre-production of Blue Eyed Fiend. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jZ0a_EmxIvE

Surprising compared to Only Inhuman. Didn't quite expect them to have started off legitimate melodic death metal with some electronic elements mixed in, only to swap over to metalcore for the next release and whatever the hell they did for that new album whose name itself sounds like a My Chemical Romance album more than anything from Sweden.
