You'd think a band based out of NYC would occasionally do a show somewhere in the States...

VocaMe is the new "all star" ensemble consisting of some of Early Music's top singers under the direction of well renowned Early Music interpreter Michael Popp. They will make their debut with the production of the first recording devoted to Kassia, a 9th Century female composer from the Byzantine era. Kassia preceded Hildegard von Bingen, who up until now was believed to be the first known female composer of liturgical music, by about three centuries with musical ideas seemingly far ahead of her time. Together with Diane Touliatos, the sole scholar on Kassia, they will present the world premiere of all currently transcribed works by Kassia to date. VocaMe is: Sarah M. Newman/Mariko (Estampie/ex Unto Ashes) Sabine Lutzenberger, (Helium Vola) Gerlinde Sämann, (Estampie/Helium Vola) Sigrid Hausen/Syrah, (Estampie/QNTAL) Elisabeth Pawelke, (Estampie/ex Faun) Natalia Lincoln (ex Unto Ashes) Michael Popp,(Estampie/QNTAL

"De Støre Smerte" is also pretty metal. And Michael Laird is a pretty hardcore black metal dude (black metal and skateboarding, the things that go into Unto Ashes).

@ Gregoria: I would recommend Moon Oppose Moon, rather than Grave Blessings as a start-off point. But I haven't yet heard all of Saturn Return. which many consider their best full-length album thus far.

I LOVE their version of Lord of the Dance. It's always a great source of shelter when I'm in really shitty moods. I'd LOVE to hear an ambient or trance remix of it, though... For YEARS I've begged DJ friends of mine to make me a remix...they've never gotten around to it, or something else has kept it from happening. If anyone ever makes such a mix...drop me a line.
