“Lipstick On The Glass” is the third track on Wolf Alice’s third full length album "Blue Weekend". The track is about restarting or rejoining a relationship, despite the betrayal that has taken it apart.

The song’s title may come from the idiom “lipstick on the collar,” which refers to the evidence left behind after betrayal.

Critically, the song has been praised as an “acoustic-electric, one-two punch,” by Paste Magazine, and as having an “otherworldly, dangerous feel” by Varsity.

On June 16, 2021 , the music video for this track was released.

In a RadioX interview, Jonathan Oddie said:

“Lipstick on the Glass” was probably one of the most difficult ones to record, I think. We had one version that was like fairly electronic and we had one that was very “band-y” and we were kind of caught between those two extremes, really. Neither one felt quite right and we met somewhere in the middle, and finding where that middle ground was took a very long time […}. Some songs we had a very good idea of what we were trying to achieve, like “The Last Man on Earth”, but something like “Lipstick on the Glass” had multiple little demos. That was one of the most difficult ones to find its natural place and home."

In the same interview, Ellie Rowsell said:

" is about a moment before you have to make a decision on something. That kind of tense moment being pulled in both directions."
