This is probably one of my favorite genres right up there with gay hardcore. For those not familiar with the genre, Gay hardcore is a term for describing bands whose sound is gay, homosexual or makes you want to have sex with guys, but their music does not directly follow traits of queercore or progressive queercore.

Chaotic Hardcore is a real thing, it's just that some of the bands tagged here are mathcore or some other variant of modern hardcore which isn't chaotic hardcore (for example: Norma Jean, The Chariot, Every Time I Die). Actual chaotic stuff is converge, oathbreaker, narrows, all pigs must die, trap them, throats, kerouac etc.

just trying out that last.fm/discover radio thing and chose this, dunno if it's true for the tag as a whole... good stuff but mostly not really what i'd call chaotic hardcore, more tech or math. Chaotic to me is stuff that barely holds itself together, like Converge obviously

I think another difference I've noticed between chaotic hardcore and mathcore is that mathcore bands tend to have clean mixes that allow you to hear every delicate technical detail of their musicianship; whereas chaotic hardcore bands are more inclined to let everything just pile on top of each other in a muddy, raw wall of sound.

@bud_bundy, Well I meant to late 80s around 88/89 with bands like Merauder, All Out War, Integrity, Biohazard, Earth Crisis, Converge,Shai Hulud, Starkweather, Judge, Strife, Rorschach, Vision of Disorder, etc. some of thise bands you mentioned when these bands first came out though they were referred to as Crossover Thrash & Metallic Hardcore and then term metalcore came along, however like you said yourself I think it best describes the bands that took "metalcore" to more mainstream light in the 2000s.
