Mark! Hi! I can't believe it's been nearly a month since my last reply, sorry! It feels stupid to carry on the conversation from ages ago, haha...so instead I'll ask: how are you? Also, got a recommendation for you - if you haven't listened to Prefuse 73 before, give him a listen, I reckon you'd like his stuff - start with Surrounded By Silence :)

Hello! Sorry it's taken me so long to reply - I've been in school on my placement so I've been really busy for once, haha! It's half-term now though, thankfully, although I've got so much lesson planning to do. It's all good though :) How are you? Aha, yeah, I enjoy listening to the Jeremy Vine show. I remember when I was younger and my parents had it on I thought it was so boring, but now I actually really like it - although I get frustrated sometimes with some of the subjects...maybe I'll phone in one day, aha! Ah yeah, I think I've heard that Radcliffe and Maconie show, it's pretty good. I like the folk show they have on one of the evenings too, but I haven't listened in a while. I've never really listened to Radio 1, but when I have I've found the DJs to be quite annoying, haha! 6:15 is an early start! I thought I was hard done to getting up at 6:50 for school! It can be nice being up early though, preferably in summer though.

Actually there's 2 cd's in My Bloody Valentine's "Loveless" remastering. One remastered from the original tape and the other from original 1/2 inch analogue tapes. Not much difference between both. But it sure is well remastered. I'm also listening to a lot of Ride, Slowdive and Teenage Fanclub these days. 3 amazing British bands of the 90's. Did you get to play Californication so far? Hey you got it all right on my region. It's sunny, laid back (except on the road haha) and people are rather friendly. I wouldn't change for another French region that's for sure. If you ever come here let me know. ;) Also hope everything's fine at work for you. Sorry for being a bit off the radar. Read you soon. ;)

Hi Mark! How are you? Everything's ok don't worry. The most ok they've been in a while. And that's why it's become really hard for me to keep in touch with everyone. Are you still following what's happening in politics? Things haven't really improved here. And Hollande is still very criticized. I'm more into music these days. I've seen Noel Gallagher in concert this weekend. 2nd row. It was brilliant. Really nice setlist and he played an acoustic version of Supersonic that was unbeliavable. In November Spiritualized is coming to Marseille. I got my tickets. So happy to finally see them. The Maccabees are the opening act. They seem like a really good band. Also I'm seeing Led Zeppelin's 2007 concert in theater tomorrow. And of course I'm following closely the news about Soundgarden's new album. Oh and don't believe I have ignored your musicl recommendations. I'm looking forward to check out Boards of Canada and the other bands you told me about.

Actually, I didn't realise it was a joke at first, but then it was so obvious, haha! Sometimes it takes a while for me to catch onto these things, hehehe :') Like you say, sometimes it's difficult to communicate properly over the internet, especially when you don't know someone in person, haha! I'm going to sound like an oldie, but I like listening to Radio 2 at times, although like all the other stations they tend to play the same songs all the time, but at least they're golden oldies, haha! Yeah, I'm the same when it comes to listening to music while driving. My drive to uni is 40 minutes, so whenever I get some new music it's the perfect test period for me to listen it. Definitely makes the journey more enjoyable, although I quite like driving anyway, especially on the motorway, aha! Hmm, which BRMC album should I listen to? I never know where to start when getting into bands I've never listened to before. Haha, Yorkshire is ace - I hope you're not joking there :')

them all that often anymore to be honest. Haha, I know what you mean about the radio stations like Capital FM and the like. Wire FM, our local radio station here plays so much crap, it's absolutely ridiculous, haha! As a result I hardly even listen to the radio anymore, although I know there are some decent stations out there too. Hehehe, and 'painful crap' is the best terminology to describe it - made me laugh! But as long as people are happy, haha :') Nice to see you enjoy a good cuppa too :D See, Radio 4 - I'll have to give it a listen :)

Haha, it isn't so much that I see it as a competition, it's just that you're so knowledgeable about all this music lark, and I wish I had more to give to the conversation! I used to be quite knowledgeable myself to the point of obsession - like finding out everything about all the bands I love, but now I find I just don't have the time, haha! Yes! You should organise your trip! It'll be well worth the effort ;) Yeah, I'm quite lucky to have travelled to some great places. Gambia was by far the best place, although I've been to New York and that was amazing too - I think the most two extremes you can get really, so I feel really lucky to have experienced those places :) But yeah, I love Europe too, I need to visit more places! Like you say, the UK has some really lovely places too, I don't think a lot of people realise. Ah, I need to listen to BRMC! I've got one Interpol album and it's pretty good :) And yeah, I like The White Stripes and The Strokes too, although I don't listen to

...it's a shame really. There are some good British bands, but as a movement I don't think we'll come close to the impact of the early rock and roll, then prog, punk, New Romantics, and Britpop. It's all too commercial these days, but that's a whole other matter, haha! I'll have to check out your recommendations :) Ahahaha, yeah, I was the same with The Gorillaz actually - listened a bit when I was in my teens, but it's only the past couple of years I really got into them :) Well, I managed two Shouts, and I'm knackered now, ahahaha!

Hello! Sorry it's taken a while to reply. I read your Shouts, but didn't have time to sit down and reply to the essay you wrote ;) Haha, I'm only joking, you put me to shame - my Shout won't be as long as yours I'm afraid, haha! Glad to hear you enjoyed your holiday :) The last place I went to was Gambia, 2 years ago in November :/ I want to go back when I graduate though, so hopefully I can! Ooh, Madrid at Christmas sounds good, I hope you get to go! And Belgium is great! I've been there a couple of times. I want to travel more but it's impossible at the moment with all my money going towards my degree. Can't complain really though, as once I have this degree I'll have so many more options :) Hmm, don't get me wrong, I do like some 'Britpop' bands, such as The Stone Roses and The Verve, but when I was a teenager I loved American music, haha. It's only the past few years I've really appreciated how good the music from this country can be. Yeah, I think you're right about the charts...

I've never really listened to Massive Attack - that's something I need to do because I like the songs I've heard. And yeah, you should listen to Gorillaz, they have some great songs! I've never really listened to Blur either (I'm not a huge fan of the whole Britpop era), but I think Albarn is a musical genius.

Hello again! Haha, oh I recognise my excuses, but telling to clear off is the problem...however I have managed to complete my assigment now, 3 days before the deadline which is bloody strange for me! I'm usually working until the last minute; but I'm entering a really important year at uni so I'm really going to buckle down now :) Haha, I'll let you off for the "poor kids" comment seeing as I started it ;) And yeah, it's all subjects...not sure which year I'm leaning towards yet though, maybe 2, 3 or 4. I've taught in Reception, year 1 and year 2, so once I get more experience in the upper years of primary I can make my decision :) No problemo about UNKLE :D I'm listening to them myself right now, haha! It's one of those rare records that I would put in my "perfect" category. It's such a well-rounded album, and like you say the choice of vocalists is brilliant!

Good afternoon :) This is going to be a relatively quick and short reply as I'm supposed to be working, haha! I have hardly any discipline when it comes to doing work for uni :') My assignment is on planning, teaching, and assessing in primary schools :) In two years I will be a fully qualified primary school teacher...poor children, haha! You seem to like your architechture :) That's cool! I love old buildings, but I'm not too sure on the terminology, aha! Take a city like York, or Edinburgh - they're the kind of 'old' buildings I like, haha! And I feel the same about Warrington now - I used to hate it, but now I kind of like it for size and the community. Have a great weekend visiting your sister; speak to you soon :)

Hello! I seem to be taking over your Shoutbox...apologies, aha! :') Ah yeah, I guess you tend to go out at home more, I keep forgetting you only work in Leeds and don't actually live there! What's Huddersfield like for a night out then? Warrington has gone downhill the past few years, although saying that it's always really busy! You're right, it doesn't really matter where you come from in regards to personality and stuff :) Haha, how come you think London is overrated? I have to admit I'm not much of a city person myself, but I do enjoy going to London on the rare occasions I visit. I have friends who live there though so I guess that helps. They filter out all the garish, overcrowded tourist places for me, haha! And nope, I don't have plans for this weekend...well, unless you count an assignment *shivers* Ooooh, and watching the rugby on TV! Come on The Wire :D Haha! What about you?

Good morning! Heheh, Yorkshire folk :') Talking of folk, have you heard of The Grove pub in Leeds? I used to go there to watch folk musicians with my friend who's a native of Leeds. She was great for showing me all the stuff that I wouldn't have found by myself! I agree with Yorkshire people being happy and hospitable, definitely! I think that's true of most Northerners. Not to say that Southerners aren't; I guess you get a fair share of happy and grumpy people everywhere. I do think there is a noticable difference though, but maybe that's just from experiences of London where people don't seem all that friendly. Aaah, that's a shame about Bradford, but I don't know, I kind of like that whole image of the North of it being quite 'grim', haha - it's like living in a song by The Smiths :') Aha, I'm glad I'm not the only one with the impulse to correct spelling mistakes! I have to type things out properly...even with text messages, haha!

Good afternoon! Yes! I buy loads of CDs too...basically any money I get gets spent on music these days; I haven't bought any new clothes in months which is pretty strange for a girl...especially a Cheshire girl ;) Hahaha! I don't really know any stereotypes for Huddersfield, so you're getting off eaily here :P I download a fair bit too nowadays, but I pay for downloads too, aha! Sometimes it's just so much easier and cheaper to download things, and I'm not the best at being patient. And yes, I have been to Bradford a few times, but only when I was younger with my family so I don't really remember it all too well to be honest. I really want to go again though to visit the Media Museum because I'm sure I went there as a kid, but I think I'd find it more interesting now.

'Ello! Yeah, Youtube is great these days for listening to whole albums...although I very rarely do listen to whole albums on there, haha! I tend to be impulsive and buy new music I want straightaway :') Yeah, I love Bloodstain, so chilled like you say, and lovely vocals. Warrington is in Cheshire yes, but I don't know whether it used to be Lancashire *shrugs* Whatever Trevor! Pahahahaha, oh yeah, I totally have a Range Rover Vogue, whatever that is! Nah, I live in a pretty normal middle of the road type of area :) Aha, Ian Brown just sort of had a policeman wandering after him :') I didn't even realise until the last minute that it was him! I also saw Vic Reeves in Leeds too, another surprise! And I wish I'd lived in Headingly, it has such a cool vibe! I really need to visit Leeds again sometime, I kind of miss it sometimes!

Hahaha, I think Warrington is just about Cheshire, although some people do like to argue about those things...I'm not really bothered! And no I haven't been to Huddersfield town, although now you've told me about the train station winning awards I might have to ;) Aaah, that's cool! Leeds is a great city, especially for student life. What job do you do? And yeah, I stayed in student accomodation, but it was in a rubbish area haha, erm Meanwood Road I think it was on. It was okay I guess, but I would've liked a more central location. Yeah, I only went back to Warrington every now and again so it wasn't too bad :) It's funny actually, one time I was walking in Leeds city centre and I saw Ian Brown, haha! It was quite strange :') I'll have to check out those tracks 'cause I've only heard the ones on Psyence Fiction, and F.E.A.R. Yeah, when I saw DJ Shadow produced the album that lead me to listen to Endtroducing, so like the other way around from you, haha!

Well, UNKLE's album Psyence Fiction is really good. I think I prefer the DJ Shadow album as a whole, but UNKLE have some really good collaborations like you say. There is Ian Brown on that album, Richard Ashcroft and Thom Yorke among others, so I'd definitely recommend it :) And wow, you're like the first fellow Northerner I've met on here, haha! You beat me though, haha, I live in Warrington. I used to go through Huddersfield on the train all the time when I was at uni in Leeds! Lol, yeah, I didn't get too drunk...to be honest it doesn't take much these days, aha :') And I don't think I've ever watched Blade Runner the whole way through!

Everything this man does is gold. Yeah i've come to the conclusion that nothing will change at home and I've reached my limits so I'm looking forward to moving. I'd like to move to Aix en Provence, a really nice city, alive and full of atmosphere, only 30 kms from where I currently reside. Nick Drake used to live there for the record. As Sinatra used to sing it, I feel like it's "my kind of town" haha. But it's also a pretty expensive city. :( I'm glad to learn you moved to a better department with nicer colleagues. I hope you're still feeling good there and you don't try to rival your Polish friend's drinking abilities. You can't! haha. I know, I used to have 2 Polish friends. Sorry for your friend Ben though. Will he get to join you at some point? Well mate, sorry for the late reply, have a good week and read you soon. ;)

Watched a bit of the documentary (haven't found the time to watch everything yet) and it's really interesting. I didn't know the problem layed so deep and was so old and I didn't fully know what was the problem there actually. I know I need to get interested in this kind of things more, especially given my job, but news just depress me haha. Anyway, no, you're definitely not boring me. Excuse my lack of knowledge in all this though. ;) Thank you very much for the link to the articles. I loved it. Very well written and very interesting. Shame this magazine doesn't exist anymore. I also read the other articles about Spiritualized of course. :) Did you get to listen to any other record of them? What are you listening to currently? I've just bought the remastered edition of Loveless by My Bloody Valentine. one of my all time favourite albums. It's going to get played a lot. Also there's a new EP by John Frusciante called Letur-Lefr, very interesting and fresh. Can't stop playing it.

Going fine Mark thanks. The busier the better right? How about you? Well, there's a lot of hypocisy in Hollande's policy. He says there won't be austerity measures yet he plans on increasing a few taxes and taxing people's savings. To me that's called austerity measures. But yeah it's like a vicious circle because obviously for economy to get better, people need to have more money to spend, so if you take people's money, how do you expect to save economy? It's as simple as that really. But we have yet a few years left of paying for politicians' terrible budget management abilities. So I can't see how we're going to get out of this. Greece won't go back to normal before a long time because indeed, people there need to change their attitude and fair play with the system/the government. But how can you fair play with a government that set the minimum salary to 400€ and yet taxes you on it? How can you fair play with a system that is killing you?

Yer man Boards of Canada are other worldly you have the nail on the head there! Theres no one like them really, there like the best band to listen to before you go to bed, or when you half sleep, trippy shit man, check it out! You have a cool music taste, varied, which is what its all about in it.

Yeah, they are quite varied :) I still have a couple more albums to complete my collection. I'll have to have a listen!

This sonic rapprochement may explain why I love this album more than other Blur albums. Kate Radley indeed played on the abum and I myself wonder how she could have. Jason Pierce tried to explain in subsequent interviews that the album wasn't lyrically inspired by his break-up with Kate. But that sounds hard to believe. Well I still have the job, but still no decent contract, so I keep on doing my stuff and we'll see what happens. I'm not someone interested in careers and I kinda set on this professional path by default, but the advantages of this job are more than I could ever hope for by being an accountant. The job is interesting, the people there are nice, times goes fast, and it would allow me to 1) leave a pretty stressful and depressing family situation very soon 2)Move to a great city that I fell in love with, and where my friends live (and that is where my job is) but that is a bit expensive. But yes, "everything happens for a reason", that's what I constantly keep in mind. ;)

I'm glad you liked Spiritualized's album. I agree they're quite an unique band despite some clear influences. And yeah the medication imagery is quite a genius idea I think, because upon listening to this band for the first time I really felt like it was medication for the soul. Btw did you know that they released a limited edition of Ladies and Gentlemen under the form of a big medication pack. On "Cop Shoot Cop", blues pianist Dr. John plays piano and it definitely gives it an unique space blues feel. Yeah I read that story about "No Distance Left to Run" and I watched the performance on Youtube right after. I can see why she felt this way. This is also a brilliant break up song. Talking about 13 and Spriritualized, it recently struck me that maybe the song "Tender" was influenced by Spritualized. Songs like "Battle" and "Caramel" them have a Radiohead-esque feel.

Hi mate, again sorry for the late reply. And, haha, thanks for the congratulations on Hollande's election but that wasn't really something I was hoping for. I don't believe in this man's ability to change things for the best in our country, just as much as I didn't believe in Sarkozy's. I hope I'm wrong though. But I reckon he'll be a forgettable president. He probably won't do stupid things like increasing the VAT rate or the price of fuel, but he will apply Socialists' solution to every problem (AKA increase taxes on income). Things might improve on a social plan but the consequence of taking politically correct measures you can not fund is that in a few years, if the Republicans take the power again, they'll "have to" be twice more strict. But well, time will tell.

For me things have slightly evolved. I had a job interview for a good and well paid job, but the interviewer found out I had a very short experience so it freaked her out. With good talking I managed to turn things the other way round though, so in the end they wanted to try me. And they tried me for a week, during which I proved to be very good. And now I'm waiting for the reply. I guess her fear is still here despite my efforts. But well, now it's just bonus really. If it happens, I'll be massively lucky and if it don't, it will still serve me in future interviews for less interesting, not as well paid jobs like those I'm supposed to accept because of the financial crisis you know haha. ;)

Check out songs like Here It Comes Slowly, A Ton Etoile, Tostaky, Prayer For a Wanker or Un Jour en France. That's more like it. :) They indeed do have an international following, they are quite popular in Eastern Europe, in South America and a little bit in Germany too. The UK and US markets were impossible to reach due to them singing in French (most of the time). Btw I checked out Half State by BRMC and it's definitely a great song, and definitely inspired by early Verve. It sounds like this new band, Exit Calm, who are trying hard to be the modern days Verve. Have you heard of them? It's good you have this job, I can see why it can be frustrating at times, but the current situation and your age make that you must accept going through that, so you can avoid being used in the future. And yes, unemployement in Spain for young people is of 50%. Leading a lot of them to leave for South America. How ironic isn't it? It's like if French people had to leave for North Africa to find a job.

Hey I think you won't regret having bought Ladies & Gentlemen. It's a must have. Come Together is definitely a fantastic tune. My personal favs are Broken Heart (takes me everytime), I Think I'm Love and Cool Waves (probably the greatest lullaby ever made haha). I'm growing a massive Spiritualized fan. Just got the new album and it's extremely good. My relationship to Pink Floyd's music is weird. I think they're brilliant musicians and they're a fantastic band, but I never got into their music as much as I thought I would. But well, everything's not lost, it took me a long time to understand why the Rolling Stones were so good, so maybe Pink Floyd will fully open to me at some point. Haha no, Noir Désir definitely isn't the equivalent of your Elbow. The song you checked out is the most different song in their last album, that was the equivalent of Down on the Upside for Soundgarden, a last album way more experimental and acoustic-based. A great album, but I prefer their previous ones.

I totally agree with you regarding Obama. But I think it's enough already that he's an ethically correct president. We have this tendency to think politicians can solve all problems. They can't. Especially in the US where few things can be truly modified. Tomorrow we vote here in France for the 1st round of the presidential elections. And after 17 years under a "republican" presidency, the socialists are favourites. People are full of hope, basically thinking the "republicans" are responsible for the situation here since the financial crisis and thinking socialists are going to fix everyhting bot on a global and individual plan. I can't see how can one still believe in politics. But well, anyway, I myself still would love to travel the US, as cliche a dream as it sounds, despite their current culture in society. A culture that I'm afraid is going to reach Europe very soon.

That must have been great to grow up with Parklife or Morning Glory. Greater than growing up with French music haha. Though we had a fantastic rock band here in the 90's called Noir Désir. If you can find it I recommend you to check them out, especially the album 666.667 Club, it's amazing. Regarding Dandy Wharols and BJM, my sister likes them and asked me to check them out, so surely I'll get to listen to them at some point. Well, thanks for asking, I still have no job unfortunately but I'm not losing hope. How are things going for you?

Regarding BRMC I'm really getting into them at the moment. I checked out Take Them On, On Your Own that I think is an amazing album. It kinda keeps the sound of their debut but takes it further. I love it! Songs like Heart+Soul, And I'm Aching, Stop or In Like the Rose I can't stop listening to. I also checked out Howl and loved it too, though I've been surprised by the change of sound. I'm gonna get Baby 81 now. I thought some songs on the new album sounded like Kasabian, and I remember reading similar critics. But that was a long time ago, I'll see if I stand by this opinion when I listen to it again. Curious to hear where they're gonna take their sound on the upcoming album. Oh and I said I'd check out Blur too, I quite liked the self-titled album but still far from 13 in my heart. I'll probably go to either Parklife or MLIR next.

Hello! It's my turn to apologise for late reply. :) Of course America is far from being perfect, especially in its foreign policy. I guess that's the price to pay for wanting to rule the world and control everything. Sometimes they're the "hero" when they take down a dictatorship but sometimes they get involved in conflicts they don't even understand or they don't get the whole picture of and end up making things worse. For some of these conflicts the locals were even begging the US not to get involved. Maybe they need to think more and act less. I hope Obama will be re-elected, 4 years is definitely short to fix the consequences of 8 years of W.Bushism. Regarding music, Spiritualized is one of my biggest musical crush of the past 3 years (discovered them in 2008-2009). I'm impressed by the quality of their first 4 albums, that are all among my favourites ever. I really like what I heard of Spacemen3 so far but I'm still in the process of discovering them. I only heard 1 album so far.

And I'll check out Half State coz that's typically the kind of songs I love. I think I did give a listen to their new album but stopped halfway through because I didn't like it. It felt like they were trying to emulate Kasabian and it didn't really work. I felt a loss of magic compared to their debut, that I just bought recently with bonus tracks btw. I agree Too Real is great, it reminds me of Pink Floyd, Dark Side of the Moon Era. My fav is Rifles, I love the Spiritualized-like intro that turns into a classic britpop song backed with Verve-like guitars. And regarding Blur, I think I'll go with their self-titled, kinda logical next step from 13 to the early albums. But then I'll go with the first 2 albums right after because I spotted some songs I really like from MLIR. I'll tell you how it's turning out. Thanks for the recommendations. Hope you're doing well. ;)

Yeah we can all agree you made a mistake by getting involved in this war, though of course we can't support what's happening there. But I think it was started for the wrong reasons and it didn't happen in a good way. That said, we were involved in Afganistan, from where our troops are just coming back. Have your troops come back from Irak yet? It seems like French people are still hated in the US from having refused to join the war. So much that a candidate for the election having the tiniest link with French culture or whatever, can suddenly become a pariah. But if that's what we get from the ignorant side of the US by refusing to bow down in front of them, that's fine with me. They have to realise they're not the world's big chief. Regarding BRMC, I can see why their debut is your favourite album ever, it's just brilliant. I really love their shoegaze side, and I really love Jesus and Mary Chain, so I guess I'll go chronologically so I can deal with their change of sound more easily.
