Transatlanticism + Give Up, live in Saint Louis, was such a frickin' treat! After 20 years of not being able to see DCFC, this was such an amazing way to have my first live experience with them (and even Jenny frickin' Lewis was there!!)

I'm confused as to whether he stated that the name sounded weird or the music that was playing sounded weird. If it was the latter, I'd be interested to know which song(s)

My favorite autumn band has released their new album in September! What a present! I fell in love with it instantly, has this DCFC recognizable vibe.

I still remember listening to "transatlanticism" and "plans" during walks through the forest on my day off when I was a social worker. though I don't really listen to them nowadays, they influenced my musical taste a lot and I will forever be thankful for them being there when I needed their music.

Ben Gibbard himself has said that he has a pretty low opinion of emo, narrowly defined, and tried to avoid being associated with that label, although he's also said it doesn't bother him too much (Source: https://www.vice.com/en/article/9kmzp8/rank-your-records-death-cab-for-cutie-ben-gibbard), And for my money, it can't be denied that Death Cab's earlier material for sure had a midwest emo dimension to it.

kind of like modest mouse and biffy clyro in the sense that they used to be emo as fuck then they started making generic indie

no early death cab are def emo or emo-inflected, it's p unquestionable but it's mostly apparent on we have the facts.

I just prefer the softer midwest emo stuff, Transatlanticism just doesn't do it for me

I'm almost through Waterfalls and I feel like 16 year old me is taking 7 year old me by the hand... (I was 7 when my sister got TLC's album, and I was 16 when I first heard 'A Lack of Color.')

I saw them a few years back and they were wonderful. They played a long set, mixed in a lot of the older material, Ben cracked subtle jokes, and the sound was top notch. I hope to see them again.
