Description
Cantus in Memory of Benjamin Britten is one of the Estonian composer Arvo Pärt's better-known works, written, as the title suggests, in memory of Britten the year after his death in 1976. Pärt describes his work as 'like light going through a prism'. Anton Bruckner's Symphony No. 9, dedicated to 'God the Beloved', was his last. Ill health, a tendancy to revise early symphonies and his eventual death left the symphony without a final movement and so, this evening, we hear only the three completed movements performed.
