Description

VACCINE (NONPLUS+ – SD)
Vaccine is the production alias of Christine Clements. Having been involved with the promotions end of the industrial rock and IDM music scenes since she was a teenager, and running drum & bass and dubstep record labels with her husband, ASC, writing her own music - after she'd been promoting other people's for years - was a logical progression. Drawing inspiration from synaesthesia and her melting pot of musical influences, Vaccine's style has been recognized as being considerably very melodic and not necessarily as dancefloor-orientated as her male cohorts. XLR8R magazine noted her "subtle melodies and echoed vocals", as well as stating that "(Vaccine's) constructions aren’t necessarily main floor rave fodder, but rather, comedown music for a 6 a.m. She is also notable for being the first female producer in dubstep, within what was up until then a genre whose producers were almost, if not entirely, male. Her DJ mixes as well have attracted attention for their careful commitment to precise blends, mixing in key, and unexpected multigenre inclusions.

Vaccine is not solely writing dubstep anymore. Never one to be confined by formulas or tempo, as evidenced in her DJ mix selection, Vaccine has recently been slinging her talents further afield writing the melodic, IDM style of drum & bass popularized by Instra:mental and dBridge's Autonomic Podcasts. She has crafted a live PA and has also been working with a fashion designer called Ernte on music for his runway shows. Recently Renoise (the program she writes music in) is pushing her as the face of their site on their music player. Look for her upcoming releases on Disfigured and Nonplus+. Surefire Sound is delighted to have her join us for her first live PA.

DJG (SUREIRE – SF)
Born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area, Dean J. Grenier A.K.A DJG landed in the world of Dubstep in 2007 with his first 12" "Shadow Skanking" b/w "Joyful Sound" on Narco.Hz. Immediate support on Rinse FM and in the clubs from DJ's like N-Type propelled DJG to the forefront of American dubstep producers early in his career. DJG's production style is richly melodic, emotive while full of groove and energy. Recognized early on for a more dubwise sound, DJG's recent productions have revealed an evolution in his music, getting deeper into bass-heavy, tech-drenched, soulful tracks.

DJs ranging from Mary Anne Hobbs, N-Type, Joe Nice, Pinch, Headhunter, Skream, RSD, 2562, Djunya, Random Trio and many more have been supporting DJG's recent and forthcoming releases. This year he was asked by Mary Anne Hobbs to produce a mix that was featured on her acclaimed Radio 1 Experimental show. When DJG gets behind the decks, his passion for the music he plays is obvious. His enthusiasm for the deeper side of dubstep and his affection for dance floor selections makes each set a spontaneous combination of the highs and lows that the sound has to offer. He has forthcoming releases on LoDubs, Wheel and Deal, Pushing Red, and Surefire Sound.

COMMA (SEMISEXUAL - SF)
Seattle born producer Ryan Gilbert, or Comma, arrived in San Francisco in 1999, where the potent drum and bass scene sparked his obsession with cutting edge sounds. Taught to DJ and produce by Boreta of the Glitch Mob, the two would form the group Slidecamp in 2005. Their debut album, due in 2010 on seminal electronic label n5MD, showcases expansive melodies, complex beats, and an obsessive attention to detail that Comma has become known for in his solo work.

On his debut EP for Mr. Projectile's Semisexual label, Comma emerges in a remote territory of dubstep influenced by ambient techno, UK garage, and experimental beats. The tracks are looming and haunted, drawing no easy comparison to his diverse influences. Live, Comma crosses boundaries with new material and forward thinking beats that can't always be categorized.
