LIKE LEAVES
http://www.myspace.com/likeleavesmusic

Like Leaves formed in mid-2007 when Daniel Varricchio (Guitar/Electronics/Vocals) and Patrick Saracino (Bass/Vocals), previously members of the free-form Headdress of Neon Flames and power-psych Bitches of Zeus, began collaborating with Ryan Manolakis, former drummer for art-rock act Mr.Wednesday.

Beginning with this power trio line-up, Like Leaves established themselves in the local scene, playing their brand of progressive psychedelic rock with bands such as Lady Strangelove, Skeletons,No Through Road, Swords and Morals of a Minor.

In late 2008, Juliet Hunter (Violin/Vocals), previously of Artax Mission, joined Like Leaves; her distinctive vocal presence and unconventional violin work adding yet more layers to their heady electric tapestry.

Throughout 2008, Like Leaves cemented their reputation as a strong live act, playing support slots for experimental musician Chris Corsano (USA) and free-jazz drummer Shoji Hano (Japan) as well as Australian acts Jarvis (Melb.) and Tame Impala (Perth) as well as having the honour of playing backing band for the legendary Damo Suzuki as well as supporting the album launches of Wolf & Cub and Leader Cheetah.

STEERING BY STARS
http://www.myspace.com/steeringbystars

Recently named as one of Rip It Up’s ‘Hot 6 local acts for 2010’, Steering By Stars are a four piece from Adelaide that draw influence from bands like Deerhunter, Sigur Ros, Doves and Vangelis. Their sound could be described as Post-Rock Punk, a melding of symphonic melodies with contrasting aggressive rhythms. Steering By Stars develop their music as a live performance, placing an emphasis on creating an atmosphere that is both captivating and contiguous.

Steering By Stars have completed their debut album ‘Cables’, which was recorded at Broadcast Studios in Adelaide over three days. Resultant from this experience is largely a live recording of the band, which exemplifies their dynamic and spontaneous approach to creating music. Cables is essentially as you would hear their performance live, and taking this stripped back approach to recording allowed them capture the raw momentum of their music.

TRAPS

Traps harness the dark and dirty to create songs of indie beauty.

After a successful EP release in 2008, leading to an onslaught of live performances including with Deerhunter (US), These New Puritans (UK), Children Collide and Pivot, Traps released the limited ‘Standard Life/Brainwasher’ 7" which displayed a true depth to their sound.

In 2009, Traps signed to indie label Rice is Nice and released the digital single ‘The Memento’, a track of dark, lilting indie-pop. ‘The Memento’ was picked up by Australian radio including triple j, FBI and PBS but also by international indie stations in the UK, US and Germany.

Characterised by distinctive vocals, driving rhythms and swelling guitars, Traps’ releases so far have confirmed them as the strong song-writing band they are and their debut album due in 2010 is something to get excited about.

BLACKCHORDS
http://www.myspace.com/blackchords

Hailing from Melbourne, Blackchords, fronted by songwriter 27-year old Nick Milwright, have been widely acclaimed on their native turf (“One of the best Australian debut releases”, Reverb Magazine) with critics raving that their darkly majestic collection of understated songs recalls the best bits of Ryan Adams, Elbow and Jeff Buckley.

In 2008 the band were signed to Dust Devil Music, and began work on their debut full-length album. "In the beginning we were almost an alt country band. Then we found ourselves trying to resemble instrumental rock bands like Explosions In The Sky. Now I feel like we've found our own feet and sound like Blackchords."

So, now that ‘Blackchords’ is complete and ready to be set free, what does the future hold for the band? "We're just eager to get out there and push it as far as it can go. Blackchords want to make music for the rest of our lives and get better and better as musicians. If we can do that we’ll be very happy."
