In the early years of the 21st century a man by the name of David Eugene Edwards sowed something that was to become a greater harvest than anyone could imagine. Already knowing the fruit of his mind, not the least through the late and great 16 Horsepower, expectations were high when Woven Hand's first album, Woven Hand, was released in 2002.
Starting out life as a musical venture between old friends Crippled Black Phoenix have now become a solid and active live band, whilst keeping their feet firmly planted in the studio experimenting with modern and antique sounds. Comprising of a bunch of musical outsiders from such bands as Iron Monkey, Teeth of Lions Rule the Divine, Mogwai, Gonga, North Sea Navigator, Pantheist and Electric Wizard, they have come up with a sound that is hard to call, some are hearing prog-folk, some hear the mournful balladry, but whatever their take on it, it has certainly had the public and critics scrabbling for words, and Crippled Black Phoenix are happily oblivious to it all.
