Description

PURE

- originating from Vienna/Austria
- works and lives in Berlin/Germany

PURE turns electricity into music since 1992. Working in the darker and heavier domains of the sonic universe he creates hypnotic, soundtrack-like pieces that trigger associations of dreams and science fiction novels using a mix of electroacoustic composition, sound synthesis, and live electronics.

So far he released over 30 CDs, Vinyls and MP3s of solo and collaborative works in different styles under various pseudonyms on such labels as Mego (at), Crónica (pt), Staalplaat (nl), Praxis (ch), and his own labels dOc, LOOP, ATMOSFEAR, and SUB/VERSION (w/ Christoph Fringeli). He has played at numerous festivals around Europe and North America, such as Argos (be), Club Transmediale (de), Mutek (ca), RGB v1 (fr), Sendandreceive (ca), Phonotaktik (usa).

Being one of the driving forces behind the first techno parties in Vienna in 1991, he departed from this style soon after to move on to further less explored and harsher fields of electronic dance music for the next years.

His turn toward experimental electronic music in the second half of the nineties went hand in hand with his deeper engagement with programming which led him to develop his own software instruments. He uses this knowledge since then for computer based live performances and teaching at various universities and media labs around europe.

Together with Erich Berger he formed the audio-visual live duo TERMINALBEACH to develop the HEART CHAMBER ORCHESTRA; an audio-visual collaboration with 12 musicians of the Trondheim Sinfonietta in which the heartbeats of the musicians create a score in realtime. While the musicians perform they generate the compositon as well as an animated graphical representation. The debut performance of HCO took place in Trondheim in October 2006 initiated and produced by TEKS – Trondheim Electronic Arts Center.

His early nineties dance music past caught up with him in 2005 when he started the successful WASTED Festival together with Jason Forrest. The festival, in collaboration with Berlin's Club Transmediale, has seen five full episodes since then.

His latest studio album was released on November 1st 2008 on the Porto based label CRONICA ELECTRONICA.

Since 2008 he started PRSZR together with polish percussion duo HATI, the noise band VORTEX with swiss doom-saxophone player Antoine Chessex and a still untitled collaboration with german technobass legend Martin Maischein.

In autumn 2009 TERMINALBEACH performed their HEART CHAMBER ORCHESTRA at the TWODAYSART Festival in Den Haag (nl) and at MUSIKPROTOKOLL at STEIRISCHER HERBST in the City of Graz (at). In October 2010 PURE enrolled in a post-graduate programme for a "MRes in Computer Music" at the University of Plymouth (uk).

In 2007 he received a one-year working grant from Austrian Foundation SKE Fonds and further support for his studies in 2009.
