Description

Cabaret punk duo The Dresden Dolls have announced to play two New Zealand shows next January.

The duo from Boston, comprising Amanda Palmer on piano and vocals and Brian Viglione on drums, are set to play in Auckland and Wellington.

This will be their third visit since their sell out tours of 2004 and 2006 where they won over New Zealanders with their 'Brechtian Punk cabaret' - a phrase invented by Palmer because she was "terrified" that the press would invent a name that "would involve the word gothic".

Blended with punk attitude, Palmers's melodramatic style, and provocative lyrics, powered by the dexterity and dynamite charge of the bare chested Brian Viglione, The Dresden Dolls evoke the feeling of a smokey Berlin club of the 30s taken to a modern day stage.

Since the Dresden Dolls took a hiatus in 2008 Palmer has visited New Zealand performing solo.
