Mariss Jansons conductor
In their second Proms appearance this summer, Mariss Jansons and the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra are joined by the Bavarian Radio Symphony Choir for Mahler’s transcendent ‘Resurrection’ Symphony.
Soprano Genia Kühmeier and mezzo-soprano Anna Larsson are the soloists in a work that begins with a depiction of a funeral procession and opens out into a vision of life after death. With allusions to Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony and klezmer melodies, its off-stage brass and percussion, and a grand choral climax, the symphony stands alone and unmissable.
There will be no interval.
