Description
The Best of Blue Note Records
Blue Note Records turns 75 next year and such an anniversary certainly feels like celebrating the whole history of modern jazz.
Founded in New York in 1939, Blue Note has released recordings from a very long list of jazz giants, including Bud Powell, Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter, McCoy Tyner, Thelonious Monk and many more. In the 1950s it pioneered the dynamic jazz style called hard bop – which incorporated influences from rhythm and blues, gospel and blues – with Art Blakey, Horace Silver and their Jazz Messengers; and today it continues to inspire new generations with artists such as Robert Glasper and his unique synthesis of hip hop and jazz.
Tonight the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis, and special UK guest soloists, perform unforgettable classics from the Blue Note catalogue, in the final date of their Barbican International Associate residency 2014.
