Description

STATIC SHOCK GIG VOL #52

GOOD THROB
Good Throb draw from all of their previous bands’ work (the Sceptres, the Shitty Limits, Tortura et al.) in the shadows of the Nixe’s Utreg punk, with a hint of "Swiss Punk Now", a bit of the Australian X’s burliness, but any desire for comparison is overwhelmed by a certain wall of sound and ferocity - on every instrument - that breeds a perfectly nasty sense of empathy. Empathy for a visceral breeze, for the methodical assassination of tedium, for the distilled detestation of our rosy society, and for Tesco anthems. Raw depictions of a mundane universe.

YOUTH AVOIDERS
Youth Avoiders is probably the best new french hardcore band, they consists of 3/4 parisians and 1/4 german. They play 80’s influenced punk rock, their sound will make you think of bands like Career Suicide and Brutal Knights as well as german punk acts such as Dean Dirg or Press Gang, this is smart catchy and very energetic garage hardcore punk. Their music is a fresh and urgent hardcore punk, with a clean and vicious guitar sound that brings the already good riffs to a even higher level. LP is out now on Deranged Records.

THE SMEAR
Excellent new London band who are drawing inspiration from the more gloomy side of punk, think The Wipers, The Observers, Mission Of Burma etc. Includes members of Die, Hunger, Semi and Black Time.

VIDEO DAYS
"London’s Video Days share something in common with two bands that are quite some distance apart, one is Australia’s infamous Eddy Current Suppression Ring – particularly those vocal-repetitions along, and another is that ‘all hail-America’ ferocity that you’d find in only someone like Pissed Jeans. If you’re a bit of ‘member CV’ nerd, you might be interested to know this foursome used to play in bands such as Sports Day (you can understand the progression that went on here) and Fast Point (other members now play in Eagulls)."
